Anybody else price out the SS then decided to just wait for the ZL1
I have had my heart set on the ZL1 in anticipation of it coming out strong for a couple years now, but for giggles i decided today to price out the SS with the options i would get and see no reason not to just go for the ZL1. The SS was $53,595. Too many benefits to the ZL1 for the extra cost. Personally, i think $54k for an SS is crazy, then u get the guys buying one and doing a supercharger and now you are in ZL1 money.

It was 53K because you selected a lot of high performance parts that will probably be standard on ZL1, and yes for an SS I wouldn't be putting all that stuff on there and pay $54K for it, as you said, kinda crazy.
Let me guess: Mag Ride, Dual Exhaust, six piston brakes, and the $2K wheel option and ground effects. But to answer the thread title, no I didn't option out an SS and then decide to wait - ZL1 has been the only one I've been waiting for.

My SS was just under 50K (no BIG Brake pkg, Sunroof, or Aero pkg)...with my huge trade in on my 2012 (paid Off), employee price, Red Tag, 1000 bonus, splitting holdback...and selling my prized GTO...I was able to pay cash for the SS for my DD, AND will be able to pay cash for my Garage Queen ZL1 after the bugs are all worked out Next Summer!
And Yes, I'm old! Last edited by Intimidator; 05-19-2016 at 09:37 AM. |

I think it should land in between 1SS and 2SS no options. And from what I've read you aren't really allowed many options on the 1LE this gen.

A 50K 1LE and a 70K ZL1 is going to either have me modding my 1LE or snagging a C6 Z06.

It all depends on if you are willing to pay to play. Everything has pros and cons. SS is still a fantastic car, ZL1 is a whole other beast and at a whole other league. SS is the most "affordable" and most bang for the buck you will get. Can you mod it to get it LT4 levels? Hell yeah, you won't have any warranty and the reliability will always be questionable and not have the peace of mind for spending the same amount of money that you would SS modded vs stock ZL1 but with the ZL1 you will have full warranty and if you even mod it slightly, it will provide better power than SS.
It really all depends on your personal approach of it all. I've only spent 46.5 and that was MSRP. My entire power mod list will cost me less than 2 grand and only have about 440-460 rwhp/rwhq which to me is more than enough without having risking warranty, things breaking or having to upgrade stuff. Which is why, for the power and having full warranty, I will be going with a ZL1. They will already put down 600+ to the wheels, a couple simple mods and it'll be around 650 with warranty and no reliability questioning and done. Cost of ownership will be much higher on the ZL1 than the SS (insurance, worse mpg thus more gas, repairs, tire cost since they are larger than SS, etc). But like I said with my very first sentence, you gotta pay to play. |
