Guys that race....Are you thinking of getting a Mustang in the next few years?
It's not like we'll have a choice in the matter if we want a pony car. For me, I'll always keep my Z, but I love the new Mach 1's, and GT350's. Seems that the new Dark Horse is right on par with the Mach 1's as well. The Mach 1's seem to do very well in FS with Strano and Leeder, but they'd probably do well in an SS 1LE as well.
You can find GT350's for $45~ish, Mach 1's (without the good brakes) for $50~ish, and Dark Horses are $58~ish. For me I'd love to find an "R" version GT350, but they are $75k+

Not a chance in hell. The ONLY Mustang worth its salt is the last GT500.

Trying to follow the point in your thread.
You ask others about future pony car purchase likelihood, implying that we only have the DH, then mention that you are only interested in Mustang's of the past (M1, 350). If anyone is considering a used M1 or 350, they could just as easily consider a used SS 1LE. And as far as I've seen heard here on Camaro6 and from a good friend who works at a Ford dealership and is a long-time Mustang purchaser, there is NO WAY that a DH can be had for $58K. More like $80-90K. |

I will likely just go with a C6 corvette and prep that for the track, or race Spec E30 BMW.

I don't feel the mustangs are enough of an upgrade over the Camaro. Weight, power, aero are all very comparable and the price to switch could be better spent on upgrades.
Now if you are just casually doing HPDE/AutoX and want a warranty, sure. That might justify it. |

No plans to sell my SLE. It's getting MCS RR2 coilovers this winter.
I'd potentially buy a Toyota GR86 if they put the turbo-3 in it though. Not to replace the Camaro though, just to add to the fleet. I'd like to buy a Cayman before they go EV, I think they'll never lose value, but probably too much $. Mustang? No F#$ way. Too expensive, too heavy.

I am just going to keep the 1LE I have, I will get much more than a "few" years out of it.
And as someone already pointed out, why would I consider a used something else when another Camaro will do? Certainly not a Mack 1, while nice (friend has one) still not a good enough car compared to the 1LE, and again, far more expensive. As for a new DH, not a chance, way overpriced for something just getting to the level of what I already have, but 80K+ is insanity! 1LE till it drops, or I do, whichever comes first (I'm 59) |

All cars' price-to-performance ratios have gone crazy, but the performance Mustangs are nuts; dealers mark them up to hell, and they won't let you test drive the cars. The pre-covid and pre-inflation Camaro ZL1 2017-2020 have absolutely fantastic values compared to what you need to "buy up" to match performance. I plan to keep mine going for as long as practical. If I had to make a change, I would look at a Corvette, Supra, BMW, or Porsche.
I was a Mustang die-hard until about 15 years ago. I still own a 2004 Mystichrome Cobra that I love, and I have a Foxbody project car that hasn't gotten much attention. The last two generations of Mustangs have not impressed me.

Just was wondering if everyone follows what the competition is doing. I race against them all of the time. I honestly don't believe that an SS 1LE is superior to a Mach 1. They both have their perks. I don't know enough about a Dark Horse to make an educated opinion about it. But I doubt it's any slower than the previous 2 Ford's. I'm very loyal to Chevy myself but also own a classic Mach 1. I just built a Dark Horse on the Ford website for $61510 (with destination). MSRP was $59270. We have a massive local dealer group that does not do any "market pricing" markups on anything. A customer of mine bought a new Z06 and paid MSRP. I guess it depends on where you go.

The Dark Horse seems to be quick around a road course based on the latest TH review but the jury is still out on it. In my opinion: GT350R > Z28 SS 1LE = GT350R SS 1LE > Mach 1 (road course) ZLE > GT350R, SS 1LE, Mach 1 (Dark Horse TBD) GT500 > ZLE |

I race autocross. I see results much different. The GT500 would be dead last at most any track I race at. A ZL1-1LE would be "ok".
At the SCCA Nationals there were 4 Mach 1's in the top ten including the winner, and 1 GT350. There were 5 SS 1LE's.

Power to ya if auto x is your thing, but I don't think that the relatively limited time you are putting on your engine "under strain" with auto x is enough to really need the track warrantee in the same way that you do if you run 8, 25 min sessions at an HPDE weekend. Frankly, I can't believe Chevy warrantees the Camaro for track use given the amount of track hours that one can rack up. Last edited by N Camarolina; 10-27-2023 at 09:05 AM. |
