Not sure what part of the world you guys are from but you can get your license at 16 in ALL states. You can get your temps at 15.5. It's only been that way since the 1920s

I think college has a big impact for a lot of them, not to mention that most highschoolers who I knew didn't make enough money to pay for a car, even at those prices.

Two questions:

1) Your parents let you purchase an expensive new car at 16?

2) How was/is your college paid for?

So you drive Porsche Cayenne now, not the Gen coupe that you claimed as yours, which you "knew" all about?
If you are 17 now and you can buy a new car on your own, good for you. You claimed you would take your car to track every weekend - how are you going to fund it? Track days are very expensive hobby. Registration fee, tires, fuel, brakes, constant repairs....

Word of advice: you don't need to make up stories to impress anyone, especially those strangers you meet on internet. Just be yourself. Genuine YOU should be impressive.

The real issue is wages. 40 years ago, the average family's income was equal to the average price of a home...with only one income.

Now in many cases, the average family income is half of the average price of a home...with two incomes.

Basically, the price of goods have increased 4-5 times the amount that wages have increased over the same period, adjusted for inflation.

My new 77 had no air, no leather or power windows. My pay was 2.85an hour. The ins. was $1072 a year. The stripped Camaro-6 cyl 3 spd was, I believe, $3995!

You can get your license at 16 in both states. It's restricted to day driving with someone over 18 in the car until 17, but it's still a license to drive.

ALL states let you drive at 16.

Big difference between a learners permit and a drivers license.
