370 or 408 or 416
Hey all. Long time lurker 1st time posting. Looked through a bunch of threads, and it seems like it’s a mixed bag of info. Looking for recommendations on a couple of things.
Have a 15 1le with ecs 1500, and my engine took a dump. I think it was a bad tune from the get go. Heads are fried and Cylinder 3 is cracked, and bent a rod. Anywho, I’m planning on get a new long block and I’m contemplating on a couple of things. Planning on doing e85 with the DSX kit, and just want to stay between 800-900whp. 1. Should I stick with stock cubes or go 408/416? 2. Which injectors ID1050 or ID1300? 3. Forged crank necessary at that power level? 4. Texas Speed/TMS or other for engine options? 5. What CR? |

1. You can make that power on stock cubes. It's just easier with more cubes.
2. I'd suggest the 1300's. The 1050 will limit you once you figure out your HP ain't enough; the DSX system will keep up. 3. Stock crank. 4. TMS assembles good stuff. Lead time? 5. 10.5:1 to 11.5:1 works good with 93 or E85. With the higher CR, just have to be more careful with timing in boost. I don't think it will limit you for power at all - the tune is everything.

Nobody ever sticks to their desired hp goals
1. If you are dead set on that blower and power level, than stock cubes. If you think you may switch to a bigger blower down the road and shoot for ~1000rwhp then go 416ci. If you think you may want to push well past 1000rwhp, then go Iron 408ci 2. ID1300... or go bigger... like FIC1600 or ID1700 3. If sticking with stock cubes and ECS1500, cast crank is probably ok. 4. Texas Speed 5. 10-10.5

If you want more torque under the curve then 416 no question. Use a smaller torquey cam and set everything up to only rev to 6500. Then max out the pulley ratios to get it to come in as fast as you can. For a dedicated E85 set-up go like 10.5:1. But if you are really only going to have a Novi1500 I'd just do a 9.5:1 pump gas car and not bother with E85.
Or reconsider your overall goal since you are going built motor anyway and start aiming for 1000+whp on a iron 408 short block. |

Definitely want to stick around 800-900whp. Anything more, then traction becomes an issue. Cam wise, I was thinking to go with their middle of the road 236/250. At the end of the day, I’m just looking for the best bang for the buck long block option.
Debating now if stock size lower pulley with my current 3.47 upper… ORDoing a 10% OD option…. OR stick with stock size and maybe drop it down to a 3.33. |
