Arizona All Gens Vulture Mine/City Run
The Vulture Gold Mine was discovered in 1863 by Henry Wickenburg. The Mine was in operation until 1942 when non-essentail mining was shut down in World War II by the Federal Government. Since 1945 the mine and company town has been abandoned and the site has been left to rot 10 miles south of the town of Wickenburg in the Vulture Mountains. At its peak the Vulture Mine had 5,000 people living at the mine site and company town known as Vulture City. There are still remains of about 30 buildings and an uncountable number of pieces of machinery. The Vulture Mine is supposedly going to reopen gold mining operations in 2013. The Mine was featured on Ghost Adventures and had a strong influence in bringing people to the Salt River Valley and Phoenix. Some of the more notable sites in the Mine include Henry Wickenburg's cabin which was the town jail, the mess hall and the collasped mining shafts known as the Glory Hole.
