Whats everyones thoughts on VVT or delete??
So im at a cross roads of sorts i am looking at 3 different camshaftsfor my 2022 1LE and for the time being probably going to do just the cam and a set of ported built heads. This is daily driver with A10 stock stall just looking to eliminate the afm/dod so while in there new cam and heads. But the 3 cams im looking at are
BTR 225 which retains the VVT Terminator cam from Jannetty which eliminates it Pray stage 3 NA (eliminates vvt) but also 3-4 weeks out on cam Like i said i have fbo MSD intake/95mm tb, kooks 17/8 headers, high flow cats, exhaust, rotofab cai, and it made 468 whp on pump. Would like to see 530-550 rwhp with most of it in the top end id like to keep it close to where it is now down low with great mid and top end. Also while were at it whats the concensus on lifters?? I hear great things bout the LS7s from the likes of RPM motorsports, Jannety, Katech and other reputable shops which use them with no issues. Then i hear they are bad and frankly while i would love to do Johnsons their very pricey. I hear good things bout Morels too. Whats most using an your experience? |

Smaller cam with smooth lobes I think VVT limiter and LS7 or Morel lifters are fine where the RPM will be under 6800 rpm.
Larger cam(stage 3+), delete VVT, and run Johnson's lifters. Those cams will want 7200+ shift points. The rub will be how you plan to use the car? Weekend toy... mainly a cruiser, do the mild cam. BTR V220 If going to track it, Pray stage 3 along with his heads and port work on the msd.

I have Johnson lifters in mine. Morels are cheaper for sure. Some guys have had good luck with the LS7 lifters, but many documented failures (See Camaro5 and Corvette forums)
King setting you straight on the CAM choice for your driving desire. I too wanted a fun street car, but I think I went past that a tad bit with my CAM choice and Whipple.... those damn mods are a never ending rabbit hole Pray stuff is nice but services are pricey... he gotta pay for that new shop he just moved into. Katech offers some head porting as well. Can't say enough good things about Katech

Everyone wants to over-cam. If you want to keep any low end, you'll want to for sure keep vvt. You should be looking at the btr 220 or katech torquer. You won't miss the couple hp up top from a bigger cam than what those 2 offer, and they make much better torque.

The chop is addicting but it can get old over time, having a car that dialed in and perform day in and out matters to me than the chop!

I only put 700 miles on the new build and as of now it averages 18MPG so far based on how i been driving it. That's a mix of city/hwy driving.

Ok that’s not bad. Is that noticeably lower for you?

Not really, I use to average about 24 vs city/hwy driving so its not bad.. alot of the bad mileage is contributed by my lead foot
but its not impacted as much as I thought..

i would do a btr220 & expect a 7400+ shift point to get the most out of it. hell i shifted my stock cam car at 6800 with an msd.
