Need advice, Too loud
Good morning all, just need some ideas from the Pro's. Just recently had Sppeed Engeneering headers and 3 in X pipe along with a tune put on my car. Love the added power but can't stand the noise levels now. I have AWE Touring axle back but it is just stupid loud for this old man.
I new it was going to be loud after removing all of the cats but holy S**t it is embarrassing to even drive it now. I was thinking of going back to the stock X Pipe and hope it does not kill the performance or interfere with the tune. I was kind of steered to the direction of the Speed Engineering setup because it was cheaper. I did not realize they do not make test pipes to hook to the original exhaust. I can handle having resonators added to the stock X pipe because the 3 in xipe fits like A** and nothing lines up and one side is hanging lower than the other. My OCD is killing me at this point to where I don't even want to drive the car anymore. And to add to this the shop doing the work turned what should have been an easy upgrade into a 2 week nightmare of me having to call them out on several things that were done poorly. Sorry for the long rant, just need some ideas. Thanks. |

Sorry to hear that you are troubles. You get what you pay for. I do not know how you can be cat delete with today’s inspections. Put the cats on and get an axle back exhaust. That should fix your ear troubles? Good luck!

I have the same setup on my 5th Gen and love it but if you want something not as noisy, you might want to sell it and get a Corsa or Borla setup.
Not every state has inspections.

Still got the stock muffler? That will probably help.

Most people that go with headers, for that reason, retain the stock suitcase and NPP because it's just to loud.

a couple of bullet style resonators or glass packs in the midpipe seem to be the least of your options then. On another car that droned really bad, with mufflers, I used a classic Cherrybomb glasspack and that took care of it.

3 options.
-Order the resonated X pipe section for your AWE Axle back...will help a bit but it's still going to be loud. -High flow cats -Find a used ZL1 muffler.

If you were closer you could have the one I just took off my car when I installed my Borla Atak axle back two weeks ago. I think your best (and cheapest) option is to find a stock suitcase muffler and have that welded in.

I was in the same boat... except I still had the AR HF cats... At that time, I added a small Magnaflow Center X Muffler in the tunnel... made the car sound 100% better. Much deeper tone, still sounds wicked at WOT, no drone.
Since then, gutted my cats as they were failing, not in love with the noise level and tone, so I ordered the 4.5" GESI cats to quiet things down. Not trying to attract that kind of attention. Hope this helps.

The only advice I have is the Corsa NPP is exhaust is incredible. It's very loud with the valves open when you're pushing it and very quiet when the valves are closed and just putting around town. I got this catback specifically because I wanted to go with catless headers.

Update, I removed the Speed Engineering 3 inch x pipe and put the stock x pipe with the scondary cats on it. Made a huge different and I can tolerate it at this point. will stll add some resonators where the crush part is and go from there. Oh yeah and I kept hearing a rattling sound all the time. So where the muffler shop owner took of the crap x pipe he found 2 header bolts lodged near the collector on the drivers side where all 4 of them come together!@#$%$#@!
