ZL1 1LE Nut/Bolt Check
For those of us that need to do a nut/bolt check I thought I would make a thread (and this should become a sticky) for us to have all the torque specs for all suspension and frame nuts/bolts under the car so that we may check them for proper torque before a track event and paint pen them.
Do any of you have a complete list of all nuts/bolts and required torque you can share? Okay, I'm going to start a list below. Please feel free to add post additional torque specs. I've been unable to find all torque specs for front and rear suspension online. So it looks like I'll have to purchase a service manual set for the car. 1. Front strut top mount bolts = 21.4 lb ft 2. Front strut spring seat = 7.4 lb ft 3. Rear sway bar end link = 32 lb ft 4. Whee nut torque = 140 lb ft 5. Engine oil drain plug = 18 lb ft 6. Rear diff drain/fill plugs = 24 lb ft Last edited by POINTBY; 11-24-2017 at 04:27 PM. |

All I know is the first time I heard the lug nuts were 140ft lbs I had to pick my jaw up off the floor.

I must have missed that. Where is it written that the lug nut torque is 140?

That's strange. My SS was 10qts, so where is that image from? ha.

No idea. Nothing in the 2017 manual is listed as 8qts...

I recently retorqued my wheels on my ZL1 and found out that on all 4 wheels 3 out of 5 lugs turned like the stud was not seated properly. I torqued all to 140. All the others clicked ao I figured those were good. I doubt GM has corrected these issues since they have been going on since the release of the 6G.

To be honest I'd be more worried about things coming loose on the street considering how bad NVH can be with the hard mounts. I don't believe this is as common as some may think though, I've been around race cars for years and it's never been an issue. With that said, it's not a bad idea to have a list of specific torque values on hand especially items related to alignment.

Ladies, enough of your opinions.
Let’s build a list with torque values already! |

We are now on post #14 and all we have established is wheel lug torque (which is the easiest and most common).
I think all of our time is much more valuable, mine sure is. I don’t have the time to sit on this forum and correspond all day. I’ll just search and build my own sheet of all nuts/bolts before I read opinions on this thread. Cheers! |
