Ordered Tony Mamo Throttle body (UPDATED WITH DYNO)

So many (if not most) on here have probably never heard of Tony Mamo, but he is pretty well known on the Z06 forums. He sells a stock LT4 throttle body that has been ported for $375 delivered, and you keep your original so if you sell the car you can put it back on and sell the ported body.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...installed.html

Anyway, I ordered one of his throttle bodies this evening (Thursday) at approximately 1730. By 1850 I had an e-mail stating that the throttle body had shipped, and is expected to be delivered on Monday! I have also ordered a Roto-Fab intake which will hopefully be here next week as well. I am going to take the car to True Street Motorsports in McKinney some time this next week to get a baseline, and to see where the AFR's are both before and after the install. I am not very concerned with how this particular dyno reads (have no idea if it is a so called "heartbreaker" or not), I just want to see the delta. From there I will decide on whether to go pullies and tune, or to add full exhaust, cam, ported snout, e85 etc. Either way I will post up with my impressions on whether I feel a difference in both drivability and power once done. I do know that the Z06 guys just swear by his throttle body so I am looking forward to it!

UPDATE

Ok, I am pretty with the results!! The sniffer was not working so no afr's, but pretty stout results from just the Throttle Body, and the car appears to be pretty strong all the way around. Pulls were done in 7th which is 1:1 on the a10. Was 85 degrees in dyno room and 34% humidity. I have only driven it from shop directly to work so cannot comment much on drivability, but was a pretty darn good pickup across the board. Took under 10 minutes to swap the Throttle bodies and again, that was ALL that was changed.

Tony Mamo used to be in charge of cylinder head design at AFR heads. He knows his shit.

I do know from a limited amount of reading that he has 10,000 plus hours in front of a flow bench... Didn't know about his time at AFR, but that sure as heck makes me feel even better. They make some killer heads!

Great info! Thanks and since I already put the Rotofab on, I'd be interested in this TB. Standing by for your updates...

You'll love it. I just put one on my Grand Sport and it made quite a difference in throttle response. His work is top notch and the best service.

I just went with a Katech ported TB. Ran me a little over $200 with no core charge and no need to send in a core. The port work was great and it increased the throttle response. You'll love the ported TB!!

$230 Katech vs $375 Mamo. Not trying to start an arguement... Is the Mamo worth the additional charge?

No, that is a good question. I honestly do not know if the Tony Mamo TB is worth $145 over the Katech... I went with the TM one though because of his reputation, reviews, and customer service. He states on his website and on forums "If you do not like it you can return for a full refund" and so far I have not read of a single person taking him up on this offer. I guess to me I would rather buy once and cry once, all of the reviews are just so good that it is worth the money to me. Coupled with his experience in doing port work it just makes sense.

But I do understand the question, I like to spend my money wisely too!! That is NOT however to say that the Katech unit is not good/as good, they have a hell of a reputation too....

Only a flow bench or better yet, back to back dyno runs would tell.

I been looking at the tb also .. not sure if it's worth it without a tune...

will this mess with afr if i already have an intake, full catback exhaust ( secondary cat delete)?

Any difference between any of them would be minimal if any at all. I tried V-Max on my 10 Camaro SS and that worked great. This time I didn't wanna be bother with core charges or having to send in a core. So I saw the Katech. And then I saw a YouTube video where a guys does a dyno on a 16 Camaro SS bone stock, then installs the Katech and does a second dyno and picked up about 4 hp. And after looking it up and seeing the price I thought that was a great deal. I figure any hp/tq gains would be bonus...I mainly bought it for the improved throttle response. But to me they all work very well and I don't think any one is better than the other. But I have recently seen posts about V-Max having poor quality, unfinished porting, and other things. Here is the Katech video...

Ok, I have an appointment next Wednesday the 7th to get a base line dyno. The TB should be here on Monday and the Roto-Fab on Tuesday but I will of course wait to install until after baseline.

Once installed I will probably drive for a week or so and then go back. I want all of the fuel tables and whatever else to stabilize before a return trip, and at $125 per dyno session I don't want to be making a whole lot of return trips!!

But I will post up with the results of the base pull and then the results of Roto-Fab+Throttle Body once I have them.

Oh, quick question... 7th is 1:1 on the a10 transmission correct? Need to know for dyno..
