Nitrogen in tires

how often do you change the nitrogen in the tires? I was told it can go bad, get other types of gas in them. I use my air compressor and fill it with nitrogen, should I change that air too?

You're paying money for an unnecessary service.

If I'm going to pay money to put air in my tires, it better have a pretty significant impact on my gas mileage. But considering the nominal (at best) percentages I've seen tossed around, I'd rather use that cash on something else.

Dealerships just want to milk whatever money they can out of the consumer

Regular air is already ~80% nitrogen.

I did it and was only $15.

I have been back 3 times because they were supposed to set the pressure at 37 psi for me. Which they did.

BUT my psi fluctuates from 39 to 34 now. Double checked with a race gage and digital tire gage.

Never had this huge fluctuation with air.

Mine fluctuate anywhere between 34-37 pretty frequently.

I haven't read anything that justifies the extra cost of pure nitrogen. That said, my CTS-V came with nitrogen filled tires and I will keep them that way as long as it's convenient i.e. the dealership maintains them at no cost. First time I have to add air on the road, I'm not futzing with nitrogen.

My dealer puts it in free. Just drive by and they take it back and fill them up. Only had to do it twice in 6 months. Just takes 10 or 15 minutes.

IMO nitrogen is a waste of money. When I put tires on my Corvette I tried the nitrogen out (they gave it to me free). I was originally told that it is supposed to be less prone to temp changes and would hold constant pressure, but that was certainly not my experience (as many of you are seeing). I also did not want to have to go to my dealer or tire shop every time I needed some air in my tires. I also didnt see how there way ever going to be pure nitrogen in my tires, it's not like they were filling them in a vacuum so there was still going to be air present in the mix. At the end I the day, I went back to regular old air and have been happy ever since.

My dealer will fill it for free but it's such an inconvenience to go there every time I need air. I went there a few times but gave up and started doing it myself with regular air after a while.

I agree, nitrogen is a way for service depts to get you to come back in. Captive audience. Another way they own you.

The guy I bought my car had the tires filled with Nitrogen, and honestly...I have not noticed a single differences between these tires and those on my old beaters. SURE the tires don't need topping off as much as the ones on my old beater did, but in reality, it is such a minimal amount of benefit for such a large cost that could be spent in many betters ways...just don't bother with it haha.
