How often should I change my CAI air filter? Supposedly all you need to do is rinse it and reuse it, according to K&N but I've had it for quite a while and I'm thinking it may be due for a replacement.

At about a million miles, or so "they" say. Clean and recharge only.

I'm already confused. Is it a CAI brand or are you just using the abbreviation as a generic term? If so, it would be a cai. Is it a K&N brand? If not, why are you referring to their instructions.

And, is it oiled or dry, as asked above.

Oiled filters aren't just rinsed and reused. There's a specific process to follow, but they generally don't have to be replaced.

I guess look at it and if it looks dirty replace it. They don't cost that much and are very easy to replace. I'm going to replace mine in the spring because I only drive mine in the summer. I have had mine on all summer now and it looks like it is getting a little dirty. It really depends on how you drive your car. Do you drive on back roads with alot of dust on them or is it all highway miles.. Shit to consider..

It's all highway, so it's really not THAT dirty..I may do it in the spring too...

You can take it off and blow it out with a air compressor...it'll clear it out pretty good.

Beware that blowing a dry filter with compressed air, even when blown from the inside out, will still embed dirt particles in the filter media. Same goes for tapping a flat panel filter. If it's reasonable to replace it money-wise, just do that.

You might be surprised to learn just how much dirt a pleated air filter can hold before flow is affected to a great degree. K&N does a great job of marketing, though.

Once a year clean and recharge.

If you live in a dusty environment, twice a year or more depending your driving habits.

Uh... NO!!!

The compressed air will shorten the life of the filter by shredding the filter element and a blow dryer or heated air will shrink the filter element.

Best to buy cleaner and recharge kit and following directions. Filter needs to air dry for a day or two before recharging.
