Adding HUD to a 2014 1SS?

Hi everyone. I am getting ready to buy a 2014 1SS. Now I know I want the 1SS because I've had both a 2010 2SS and a 2013 1lt. Believe it or not I actually like the cloth seats WAYYY more then the leather(plus I'm getting recaros). However I always wanted HUD, but not nearly enough to pay the price difference for it. So my question is how hard and expensive would it be to install the 2014 HUD on a 2014 1SS?

It's going to cost a bit of money to do it that's probably really the only major factor. People here have done the HUD upgrade to 2010 models and to the best of my knowledge they turned out great.

Just get the car with it. To get hud u have to tear up the dash. Not sure i would want that on a new car.

Also I believe the HUDs in the 14s are color now, I could be wrong.

I'm sure you have to have the 2LT/2SS package to get HUD for 2014 like all other model years.

Deathmore - Use the search function for information about the HUD and costs. I did a search earlier for a radio removal for info to get my new ZL1 suede dash inserts installed after I responded here this morning and all I came across was thread after thread of HUD DIY's, how to's and HUD questions.

I don't get it, if your getting Recaro's why not get the 2SS for $3K more. The only difference between the two is the 1SS will still have cloth BACK seats. And with the 2SS you'll get all the other little goodies.

In order to install a HUD, you have to remove the entire instrument panel. In order to remove the instrument panel, you have to remove the steering wheel, airbags, instrument cluster, console, stereo, etc. I don't think that anyone has determined yet, if the new 2014 color HUD is compatible with the the 2013 down harness. If it is, you can use one of Ofer's adapter harnesses. If it's not you'll have to swap out the entire instrument panel harness or wait until Ofer develops an adapter harness for the 2014s. The windshields are different, but the guys who have been doing this mod have not been swapping windshields. The HUD works with a non-HUD windshield, it's just not as clear. It's a big job that I would not want to attempt on a brand new car. The bottom line is that if you want HUD, buy a 2SS. Then if you don't like the leather seats, swap them out. Swapping seats would be much easier than installing a HUD and you can always find someone who would swap cloth for leather.

... and No, you don't need a new windshield

Should be able to tell by the way the rest of dash reflects off it.

Anyway, plenty folks done it, works fine. Its pricey and you have to cut a hole in your dash...
