Trying to narrow down what exactly to use. Leaning toward Mobil 1 but there’s like three different varieties. I don’t track the car so... I’ve never really looked at the Viscosity Indexes before. Dexos1 is obviously a must, and I’m NOT getting whatever’s on sale.
I’ve read about the new Dexos2 but it’s not yet available anywhere I’ve looked locally.

I welcome suggestions. BTW, I spent most of last weekend on the Mechanical Maintenance thread. I’m probably getting to wrapped around the axle.
I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in the 50th and Pennzoil Platinum in the 1SS. Just regular Pennzoil in the Colorado. Did I mention I was a Pennzoil guy?

With today's oils, if you change it at early intervals, use a quality oil, I don't see where you can go wrong. I change at 3K miles.

Thanks guys. I feel like such a NOOB. I was told long ago to just pick one and stick with it.

I’ve watched a couple of videos on the Toob and, wow, what an arc. Really going for distance there.

Thanks again. Really do appreciate it!

Called GM yesterday about my Anniversary Kit, and they called me back today saying it is on its way!!! I was kind of impressed with their customer service.

Don’t feel bad. We may tease you about 25 years oily hands free but we here to help.

Yeah pretty much pick a brand and stick with it.

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30 with the grey label (not the annual formulation or extended mileage) with their Mobil 1 M1-113 Performance filter.

And yes that 10 qts comes out in a hurry.

Well here’s something.

Wish me luck, I’m performing my first oil change on my own in almost 25 years.

Used to do it all the time. Then I guess I got lazy. Let the dealers have all the fun.
I let the oil change place do my daily driver since it's just more convenient and price is about the same. Suburban and Camaro, I do myself (except the obligatory free ones, because I like free).

MOBIL1 Synthetic is my preference as well as the MOBIL1 premium filter. But you can't go wrong with any of the name brands if you're changing the oil "early and often." I usually don't go much past 3k if I can help it.

Definitely make sure you have plenty of basin catch space before you start. 10 qts is more than I thought and I ended up with a mess on my first one.

I am also a proponent of getting an extra quart to "flush" the old oil out ahead of popping the drain plug back in and filling 'er up.

Woo hoo! Congrats man!

Just out of curiosity, what number did you call for that? I want to inquire about getting a couple extra set of cards for building a car show display board.

Just to show y'all how safe these Gen 6s are - check out this wreck from earlier today in St Pete / Tampa area (FL). Guy walks away with nothing but a ticket for careless driving. This after driving 70+ mph, jumping a median, and landing on the ground below the overpass. Front end is demolished, but he's ok. http://www.wfla.com/news/pinellas-co...ete/1129994528

Appreciate the info.

Going to be using the local auto hobby shop on base.
