I feel your pain. Lived in west tx my whole life, still work in midland, and the difference from driving from Midland with 91oct and to San Antonio with better DA and 93oct feels like a literal 45+HP gain! Even when I come back to work in west tx from SA with a tank of 93oct, you can still feel the difference once I fill up with 91oct

Move to Houston or Austin, 93 octane everywhere.

Hello neighbor!! I'm from Odessa Tx too. There's only one in town that has 93 octane. It's on Andrews highway and 42nd street. It's the Phillips 66 gas station.

Some tuners say the difference between 91 and 93 is 20 rwh. Since the recommended fuel is 91 minimum, the SAE rating of 455 hp should be on 91 octane, regardless of how the ECU is optimized.

No issues at all, the car will adjust immediately as needed.

If the engine controller detects spark knock, it will automatically back off on timing. If it sees it on a consistent basis, it will switch to a different ignition timing map. That new map stays in place. Not sure if it is the same now, but the controller would reset to the original timing map at the next fuel fill-up. Then follow the same path if it detects engine knock.

Bottom line, no issues at all - use just don't access full power potential.

You'll have a hard time finding 93 as you leave the coast. You're approaching 5000 ft elevation in west texas and 93 won't do anything for you vs 91 anyway. Most people who experience a power gain when coming to the coast are more than likely feeling the denser air performing in their favor. Of course down at sea level you'll need 93 to avoid retarding the timing. Up high it doesn't matter so you'll see regular octane dropping to 85 as well.

The elevation in Midland is a little under 2800', not 5000' You might find some 5000' elevation in the Davis Mountains, but not in the Permian Basin.

Here in Utah the highest we have is 91 because of our elevation. Have never had any problems running it.
