Maryland Emissions Inspection

Has anyone passed without cats? My car is tuned so no CEL, but I'm worried that they will do a visual inspection and it will fail. Hopefully I will be out of this state before I need the inspection, but it was just a thought.

Don't read this as attitude, but what does the former have to do with the latter? What I mean is, regardless of someone passing, if a visual is done and you don't have cats, you will fail (well, maybe...there is always the dead presidents work around).

No they just plug the OBD II port it. I'm just wondering if they do a visual or not.

If they only plug in then you should be fine. If one place does do a visual and fails you, just go to the next.

Tell them you don't want your car on a lift for anything unnecessary. These cars are so low stock it's hard to get a visual if it's not on a lift

I just did my emissions testing. I have no cats. All they did was plug in the OBDII tool. No codes and u r fine. They did do a walk around with a mirror device under the car, but who knows if they even knew what they were looking for.

lol, not sure why they look for dead cats during inspection.....guess they don't want them falling out in to the road.

Probably depends on the station/operator. I took my other car to Westminster about 2 months ago- no mirror check, just computer connection and go.

They walked around mine with mirror. My hi-flow cats look just like a piece of straight pipe. They didn't say anything

I don't think most of those guys care as long as you have your checkbook ready.

The shops don't make any money off emmisions/inspections, the money goes to the state. They want you to fail so then they can fix

Be careful, when I took my SS in for emissions, I put my cats back on..... And it's a good thing because they did a visual check for them.... If your caught not having them, I heard its a hell of a fine...

I'll be sure to lower my car to the max when its time for mine because I do recall mirrors being present the last test. I miss the air suspension :-(
