Revenue from Traffic Ticket Fines

An interesting fact about traffic tickets is that an average traffic cop generates an annual average revenue of $200,000 for the city - just from traffic ticket fines! In Texas alone, the state's top forty speed traps generated a total of $178,367,093 in speeding tickets from 2000 to 2008.
Below are the top 10 states that are known for writing tickets:
  1. Ohio
  2. Pennylvania
  3. New York
  4. California
  5. Texas
  6. Georgia
  7. Virginia
  8. North Carolina
  9. Massachusetts
  10. Connecticut

My next court date is Thursday.

Sorry guys, but any out of state advise is worthless. Va is different. Read my previous posts. There is no talking to the prosecuter!

Good luck! That last "proposal" you got was outrageous!

I agree that reckless is a serious charge, but 5 days in jail? Really?
I guess the Old Dominion is super serious about reckless.

I wish the best for you.

Jim

Thanks again for all the advice.

For numerous reasons I couldn't risk a conviction so I lawyered up. Ultimately was reduced to failure to obey a highway sign.

I'm not gonna say I never speed, but I truly didn't mean to go that fast. Was passing a dick semi and just wasn't paying attention. Definitely going to watch it closer. Doesn't take more than a second on the gas to get up there.

Good to hear it was reduced down to failure to obey. That is a much better outcome than reckless!

Too funny SneakyPete, but yes, as you really know, one can drive pretty fast on 95. But best to be with a group at O dark thirty. Nobody from this area does the speed limit on 95, except on beach weekends, and then everybody is crawling. But I try and stay away from 95.

I'm really sorry Msmall143. I think you are being overly punished for your speeding ticket, and when it's reckless, like you said, it becomes a very serious offense. But as you know too, people drive fast in Northern VA and it's potluck who stops you. Some will hammer you, some won't. And reckless (in VA) is costly no doubt. Just hope it all works out for you sir. I live in Charles Town, WV and commute through Loudoun County to Crystal City (Arlington). Surprisingly (because people always seemed surprised I come so far) it only takes about 1.15 - 1.20, but that's leaving at 0500. I was recently stopped between the Dulles Greenway and the toll road by a VA State Trooper. He let me off with a warning. I was lucky. Hang tough and I wish you the best.

Update. Shits over with.

I refused to take the second plea (a weekend in jail, 1 month suspended license followed by 5 months restricted and $1000 fine) and took it to trial. I told my lawyer if the judge gives me jail time and license suspension to appeal and get me out ASAP.

Went tot trial and was found guilty and the Was taken right to jail for 2 days which was really like 30 hours. I begged to keep my license so the judge said if you want to keep it your going to jail. So no license suspension or restrictions

Official outcome was
- 180 days in jail, 178 suspended
- $815 fine
- my lawyer was able to get them to amend the charge from 98 Mph to 88

Lawyer was $3500

Shit was rediculous but I was hauling ass. I always just thought you'd get a slap on the wrist for a first time offense.

A guy that was going 1 mph more than me took a plea that was 6 months suspended license with no restriction allowed to avoid jail. I couldn't have gone 6 months without driving.

I walked out of jail with my license in hand and bought this same day!

So you went to jail for 2 days or 180 days? That sucks either way, but yeah, you were moving!
