Hellcat Redeye makes 797 hp. Will Chevy have a reply?
Dodge obviously has no problem stepping on their own toes, with the new Hellcat Redeye making just 11 less hp than the demon. What, if at all, will/can Chevy do in reply with the ZL1? Will they now consider putting the ZR1 engine in to make things a little more competitive? We all know Ford has a sledgehammer under it's sleeves. I'm sure that will be somewhere in the mid 700 hp range. Is it too much to ask that the General step up to the plate to give us Bowtie fans something to root for?

The ZL1 doesn't need a thing. It took this long for the competition to match it. And even now we can't say for sure that these others will actually beat it. The GT500 isn't coming out until 2019 and probably not until 2020...I heard it got pushed back another year but I'm not sure. The Redeye is out for 2019 but will it beat the ZL1's tested 11.4 on whatever tires they decide to throw on it? By the time we see any of this we'll be almost at the 7th Gen. Which means GM would have to scramble unless they've had something up their sleeves all along. And then would that bump the price up? So to me, the ZL1 has been the king and should remain the same. GM will raise the bar again for the 7th Gen and everyone will be playing catch up yet again and probably won't actually catch up until we're almost at the 8th Gen and so on...

They're claiming 11.1 @ 131. Sounds a little optimistic, as I doubt it will hook very well. 10.8 at the same trap for the widebody with some proper rear tires.

Power to weight. Let’s start there.

I doubt it! I’d imagine GM is pretty confident with their lineup

Yeah, the ZL1 will not keep up with a wide body hellcat redeye 797 horse with a 305 35 20 tire from the factory and there great 8 speed ZF sourced auto trans only. Hate saying this as I would never own a hellcat over a Camaro. This is 1/4 mile and straight line runs only. The mopar is too heavy to do any road course stuff.

They’re even offfering a 3 series rear gear option. The Readeye will be showing it’s brown eye to the ZL1. It will easily be over $80k. It’s just a little to big of a platform at 8” longer than a ZL1 which makes it a much tighter fit for my garage.

Still don't understand why GM doesn't have the optional drag package available for the ZL1 or the SS.

Demon list price was 86k, I would think the redeye would be under 80k.

Good point. I’d definitely want the wide body, so that’s $7k. I wasn’t sure what they listed for. Hopefully without being limited production the gouging won’t be as bad. I was about ready to order a 19 ZL1, but this is giving it competition.

The cheapest redeye was said to be around 70k. With that being said.... C'MON GM!!!! As much as many don't like to admit it, GM is always playing catch up, not the other way around. The 5th gen ZL1 was the slowest between the Hellcat and the 2013/2014 GT500. Then GM comes out with the 6th gen that MATCHES their acceleration performance, now Dodge has a nearly 800 hp Challenger coming out and Ford is coming out with a Shelby that will be north of 700 hp. Both of which will out-accelerate the ZL1. Where the ZL1 will probably come out on top is handling (obviously against the Dodge) but we still don't know what's in store for the 2019/2020 GT500. It's handling may very well be comparable to the ZL1.
GM, you need to put an LT5 in the ZL1 to level the playing field. Will you? Probably not.... |

well that’s it. The V8 is clearly dead. Bring out the 4/6 cylinder hybrid motors.
