Photo won't upload right now. I'll try to add it to the thread. I'm using the front seat bracket from thebracketeer. Unless you are super vertically challenged it won't get in the way of your seat.

Former road racer here - don't install a fire extinguisher. If you are racing and the rules state that you have to have some type of fire suppression device, spend $400 and get a good FE-36 system (like this https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...asp?RecID=7024).

Why? Well, let's say that there is a fire under the hood (most likely place). You will have to:

1) Slow the car to a stop.
2) Unbuckle your seatbelt.
3) Unlatch the extinguisher from the car.
4) Pull the pin on the extinguisher.
5) Pop the hood.
6) Get out of the car.
7) Raise the hood (BIG no-no, as you have just provided a gas fire with lots of oxygen!).
8) Extinguish the fire.

That's 8 steps . . . all while your car is on fire. From experience, it's a good 30-45 seconds for all that to happen, while your car is burning. By that time, the engine and car are usually toast, and/or the fire is uncontrollable.

What if the fire is IN the cabin with you? Well, you still have to do steps 1-4. But, now you have to decided "do I fight the fire while I'm in the car, or do I get out"? Trust me, you don't want to be doing 1-4, or #8 while the inside of the car is on fire - it's almost impossible to breathe.

Now - you've installed that system I showed you. And, there is a fire. What do you do?

1) Pull the lever.

That's it. The fire is out (or retarded to the point where you can safely stop the car and exit).

Simply put, having a fire extinguisher in a car is more dangerous than not having one at all.

You had me until that last part.

I agree that the system you suggest is a great primary tool, but it is not intended to replace the in-cab extinguisher. Both would be primo. I have a Halatron inside the cabin. If I am upside down or otherwise compromised then it might buy me time inside the cabin until rescue can arrive.

But with a systen, especially an AFF system, you put one nozzle aimed right at your feer/legs. That way, you get covered with foam and are less likely to burn.

I'd like to own one. Better yet, I'd like to own two.
