As for heat. I tested exhaust wrap on the aluminum tube and it didn't make a hill beans difference in IAT's. I monitored IAT 1 & 2. Insulating the air box didn't do much if anything. You want to remove heat change the intercooler.

Lastly my DIY version costs about 50% less that aftermarket. But, if you build the custom air line with check valve the price goes up. You will need 2 new PCV valves, 2 more -6AN fittings, push lock fittings, silicone hose & hose clamps.
I'm no physicist or whatever but I wonder if that heat reflective gold tape would be a better option than exhaust wrap for the intake tube? I've been thinking about using it on mine but I doubt its worth it.

I'm curious about the gold tape too. thought about putting it on the intake tube and open top airbox. Maybe it works but at such a small % it doesnt matter in our application?

Heat soak can be and will be debated to death on intake piping and intercooler piping and yes there are gains but they are often small and are often within statistical margin of error.

Heat transfer is largely driven by the amount of time the air spends inside the tube, the material of the tube, the surface finish, the flow path/geometry, and most importantly the differential temperature between the engine bay, temp of the tube, and the air inside it.

The heat gain by this short little pipe on a boosted engine is simply not statistically significant compared to the heat gain from compressing it.

the tube that ChicagoTommy refers to as "a lumpy turd" flows the best, it comes in 3 colors and is the most expensive.

I just call 'em like I see 'em!

I, too, am curious about velocity. Velocity is everything!

Unfortunately, I don't have a velocity probe for my flow bench. I'd love to get one but my flow bench is just more of a glorified toy these days to check random things for myself/family projects. Cats, manifolds, random crap. Once and a while a set of heads. Can't really justify buying the probe.

I don't think velocity would be a huge issue on the turbo inlet side, as it's just gonna suck what it wants. It is definitely more important on the intake side of the engine.
