We go once or twice a year, just got back on New Years Eve. Here are a few things we like.
1.You should try at least one nice buffet. We just ate at the Wicked Spoon (Cosmopolitan) and the Bacchanal (Ceasars Palace) , The Baccanal was much better. 2. Red Rock Canyon just outside of Vegas. It is a 13 mile oneway loop drive through the park with many trail heads to do a little hiking. Most of the trails are not to strenuous. If you go in the summer make sure it is early and bring water with you. Stop at the visitors center and they can help you decide which trail(s) to hike. 3. Ethel M's chocolate factory has the largest Cactus garden in the U.S. It is free to walk through and tours of the factory are free , located in Henderson. For those that don't know Ethel M is one of the M's from M&M Mars candy co. 4. As mentioned dinner at night at the top of the Stratoshere is very nice. Make sure you make reservations. 5. My favorite shows are Blueman Group (Monte Carlo) and Recycled Percussion (at the Quad). RP was an Americas Got Talent act. I don't recall if they won that year or were semi-finalists. 6. We usually stop at Gold and Silver Pawn shop (Pawn Stars). Last time we met Rick and Chumley. The Old Man was there but did not come out. We have been going there since the mid 90's. 7. Been to Hoover Dam several times but not since the new bypass has been done. Worth the time to drive out and visit. Hope this helps |

If you like a comedy magic act Mac King puts on a good show. I got to meet him after the show and found out he grew up near me and went to the same elementary school I did. We used to exchange e-mails a lot but when my wife got sick I lost touch with him. http://www.mackingshow.com/mobile/enter.html

Hoover Dam
Fremont St We liked just touring the different hotels and casinos, just learn to walk past the people on every street corner flipping the prostitute cards at you, unless your'e into that sort of thing! But if you're not it can get rather annoying. Madame Toussads wax museum is sort of fun too |

I produce conventions in Las Vegas several times a year. You are getting lots of good suggestions in this thread. Some are free, some you have to pay for - just don't stay in one place - get out and see the sights.
The shops at Caeser's Palace where you are staying have some nice restaurants and you can catch the concrete statue show as they "cometo life". Also, the pool at Caesars is quite nice. If you are so inclined you can jump off the top of the Stratesphere and free fall (attached to cables) about 1200 feet. I have watched several friends do it but never myself. You can go the Rio and have a cocktail on the outdoor patio at top of the tower - VooDoo Lounge. This is a great spot for photos of the strip, especially at night. Walk through the Venetian, Aria, and Wynn hotels just to see them. Freemont is most like a street festival. There is a off Freemont Biker/dive bar called Hogs and Heifers if you like having bartenders with megaphones yell obcencites at you before and while they serve you drinks. IF you have time - you'll need an entire day to drive to Grand Canyon. Hoover Dam and visiting a marina on Lake Mead are good. Ordrive route 93 in Arizona towards Phoenix - maybe go from Kingman on I 40 to Wickenburg and back - great scenic road trip if you get tired of the lights and glitz in Las Vegas. |

I'm heading to Vegas next week for a good friend's 50th birthday. I'll be staying at Planet Hollywood Thurs-Sun. I'm not really into gambling, strip clubs, or paid female entertainment. I would however enjoy hitting a club where there is good music, dance, and a nice mix of folks aged in there 30s and 40s. Any suggestions from the group. Be specific about nights and times.

I forgot to mention ,if you like Elvis there is a great act (Big Elvis) in the Piano bar at Harrah's.
It is free and show times are 2:00,3:00 and 5:00 on Mondays,Tuesdays,Thursdays and Fridays. Get there early to grab a seat in the bar. |
