Stall converter?

I have an auto camaro and i'm planing to get cam, but i heard that i need a stall (torque) converter.

How the stall converter works, is it safe to drive cammed car without it?

It all depends how big of a cam you get. Some cams you need a converter other more mild cams you don't.

Well put...a converter is the best mod for an auto you can do.

Wow, the stall is unbelievable, meaning that when U take off u are not sitting there reving your engine like it all sounds. Still moves. I really like the thread I read under Drivetrain . The part bought 2 fan's explained alot to me and helped me understand. Then when being in the car with the 3600 stall I fully understand.

Converter puts the engine in the power much faster. My FTI 3200 is ridiculous for my setup (bolt ons). As soon as I get into the gas, the engine jumps to 3200+ rpms and the rear wheels start spinning.

Even with 305/35/20 Nitto NT555R drag radials, I can't hook up to save my life on the street. And at the track, I'm also having issues.

I need to drop down to 18" wheels so I can hopefully hook up (street and strip).

Some bigger cams can rob you of low end torque. The converter will get you to a higher rpm faster so the car doesn't bogg off the line.

A 2800 stall is just right for a stock or bolt ons car. I would recommed a
3200 or 3600 stall for most cam setups.

The stall is what makes the big cam streetable, otherwise you are standing on the brake at stop lights so the car doesn't move forward... just getting a 3200 stall without cam is a super nice upgrade and totally streetable...

I could not imagine driving the car without it. Also, the gains in the 1/4 are well worth the money spent on a stall converter.
