Once you start experimenting with vastly different pads vs OE you are opening the door to potential ice mode. Driver technique plays a part, do not smash the brake pedal. Learn finesse. As far as what to do if you experience it, a quick release then a more gentle reapply will allow proper braking. I experienced it on my Gen5 SS 1LE when I switched to Michelin PS Cup2 tires. My previous setup was Goodyear 3Rs and Raybestos ST43 race pads. While I previously could get ABS engagement with that setup if I got aggressive, the change to the Cup 2s put me into the ice mode area. I softened my brake application the rest of the day and had no problems.

Having spoken to a GM chassis engineer, these cars do not need different pads front and rear.

I currently run Ferodo DS1.11 pads on my '22 BCD equipped SS 1LE and have no issues. They are a great pad. It seems like those who have had ice mode tend to be running the Hawks...

Thank you all for the input.
One last question. The car has the all season Pirellis and they seem to have zero bite. What tires are you running on the street? I have Track wheels and tires with the Goodyear 3r

For the street I like my Continentals. Continental Extreme Contact Sport. Great in the rain. More numb on center but good for a tread wear 340. Wear very well even with a couple rain days on the track and aggressive street.

I'll second the Conti ECS. They do just fine for DD, fun on weekends, very good in rain. In fact on the wet skidpad exercise at the track, I could not keep the rear tires slipping in oversteer; They kept wanting to regain traction and moved the car back into understeer.

Also supposedly better in cold weather (25-40F) traction than the 4S, given we are talking about summer tires. But never have run the 4S so can't say for sure.

I have used PS4S tires for quite a while, and not only are they great in the wet (similar high performance as on dry pavement), they're also absolute cold weather champs, at least as much as a max performance summer tire can be.

Zero qualms about driving on them in 36-38 degree weather. 25 ˚F would be pushing it though, the rubber may even crack in sub-30s... maybe if one's coming out of a heated garage and driving aggressively enough not to let the tires cool down too much.

The new Conti ECS 02s are cheaper, though, and I am seriously considering them for my next set, just to change things up a little and have data for an in-depth comparison.

I drove my buddy's '18 SS 1LE prior to my Gen6 purchase. I drove his car with the OE 3s and then with OE sized Michelin 4S. I hated the feel and response of the 4S. IMO, it took so much away from the 1LE. He later put on Conti Extreme Contact Sports and he hated their inability to put power down coming out of turns.

Since steering response and feel is important to me I wasn't going to go with the 4S on my '22 SS 1LE. I searched around and found that the Michelin Pilot Super Sport was not toned down like the 4S. I bought the BMW "Star" spec up front and the Ferrari "K3" spec on the rears. OE sizes. As much as I love the OE 3, the PSS are fantastic. Better wet performance, on par street grip, they are atleast as stiff as the 3, with a little bit better steering response and feel. Worlds better than the 4S. I ran the PSS on the fun roads in the Smokey Mtns of TN and NC this summer. The PSS were perfect. Even turned all nanies off on the Tail of the Dragon and the car was amazing.

And it rained cats and dogs at various times of that trip. The PSS never faltered.

Is that just in the ZL1 size? Is the unswept area on the rotor particularly noticeable?

Yes.
There's about 3mm of difference. Once the old swept area gets some rust on it the new unswept area is not noticeable.
