These cars are good sleepers. If I saw one of these on the road even after reading this thread, my mind would probably go elsewhere and it would blur into obscurity and look like any other car on the road. That is, unless it tried to race me. Aussies should recognize this pretty easily though.

When I clicked on this thread, I thought I was going to see a Camaro SS. But it's partially Chevy's fault for the dubious decision to name a car after trim level. It's like if Dodge simply named a car an "R/T", or if Ford called a car just a "GT" (oh wait..Ford did).

Yes, it is a Sports Sedan but the moniker 'SS' was an intentional reference to the Super Sport/SS badge as well.

Thanks all! And I have to admit my title was intentionally a tad misleading. I drove it and fell in love with it. If the 1LE was available on the 2SS, I would have waited. But after driving this with al the creature comforts I decided I wanted them and me already have a coupe so this made sense.

What transmission? (I assume "auto" meant it's an automatic.)
How much did you pay before taxes and tags?

Good luck with it.
Yes auto. Paid $47,481 +TTL. Sticker was $50,270 I think. It had both the available options. Sunroof and full spare. No lease available though so I had to buy it. I'm probably keep it forever anyway

By the way, has anybody actually successfully rebadged these as a Holden? I think the Commodore has a nicer grill. Besides that, I don't see any real differences.

Slightly off-topic, but I really wish they brought the Ute to the USA officially as an El Camino, although some people are converting old Pontiacs to unofficially bring the car state side, they aren't as nice as the newest models which I think are actually based off the Commodore too.

Yes. Many have done the exterior conversion. I've seen a handful of GTO's converted as well (to Monaro).

I just double checked, and yes, it is basically the same car. The interiors are kinda tight considering they are a "full size". Full size just doesn't mean the same that it used to.

Drive an older '96 Impala or a big body Cadillac, and you'll see what full size should be. At work, NOBODY likes the Caprice and how it drives. People find any reason possible to get out of driving them (if they are not in the shop, since the transmissions don't seem to hold up to abuse well either), they are neither comfortable nor fun.
