Then it won't be a 2016 Camaro and there will be half a year of production gap. Don't think that's likely given the Mustang sales lead at this point.

Because it doesn't make business sense. I don't know when the model year starts/stops, but I do that that, economically speaking, it is a poor decision to release your product significantly later than the competition; it gives them a chance to establish themselves, and causes you to loose sales from people who would have bought your product had it been released.

Legally in the US a manufacturer can label a car a 2017 model on 1/2/16 as an example. So if they wait that long they won't call it a 2016.

hypercarfanatic is right, it would not make business sense to wait that long and leave a gap in production too.

They can. Doesn't mean they will.

Buick Cascada is launching in early 2016 and is still a 2016 model.

Yep they can. The Buick is a brand new model correct? Seems this happens more often on a new car introduction than a new generation of an existing car. Would you agree?

What we really need to find out is when 5th gen production is officially shutting down. That will gives us a better idea of what to expect.

Cause I really don't know. Like I said, the date's been scheduled, just nobody outside GM knows or is talking.

GM's really locked down the 6th gen. It's odd, actually. Never seen them act like this before.

Yeah, unreal how locked down everything is.

The only issue with that is that the 6th gen will be produced in a different plant than the 5th gen, so the end of production of the 5th gen doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the start of 6th gen production.

There does not need to be any gap in production. You can legally build a 2015 Camaro all the way to December 31st, 2015. Further you can build enough of the to have many in the lots well into 2016. There will be no gap in being able to get a Camaro. That I would bet on.

The only issue is if it gets much later GM could call the first Gen 6 a 2017 model. But that is a choice. Remember the 2010 launched in the Spring of 09 for a very long run.

But didn't GM say the Gen 6 would be a 2016 model when they announced the move to Lancing?
