adaptive cruise control
Does anyone have any inside information an 2018 and up, options?
I'm on the fence about upgrading to the 2018 ZL1, or spending money on other toys.....new Malibu wake boat, lake house..... But, adaptive cruise control might just push me toward the ZL1, and wait another year or more for the other toys |

I didn't know these cars don't have that already. The Mustangs started offering it in 2015 on their GTs and Ecoboost cars.

I knew that I'd get grief for this. My brothers caddy has it. I love it. I do a ton of highway driving. Daughters in school in opposite directions, businesses in different cities.
but, no....seeing a ZL1 in person will probably be the actual deciding factor or the winter Dallas boat show ..... |

Even the Corolla and Civic offer it now, along with many other cars, but I'm not surprised to find it absent on the new Camaro considering it doesn't have any active safety or driver assistance features to go along with it.

Adaptive cruise is awesome, if it works well. We take a couple of long family trips a year, and I will not buy a car without for those moments alone.
Having said that, for daily driving, especially in traffic, it lets way too many people jump in front of you, so I don't really miss it in the Camaro. |

The software for adaptive cruise is already embedded into the ECM. There's a thread somewhere on the forum from last year where someone went into the software and found it by accident.
It would eventually have it due to the fact most automakers have come to an agreement to make pre-collision automatic braking standard on all cars by 2020. It would be logical then, if the car has the sensors for pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise would be included since it uses the same sensors, same principles of operation. |

The Camaro is a "Driver's Car" for people with the skills to drive it the way it was meant to be driven. It has Backup Cross Traffic Alerts along with Side Blind Zone Alerts and frankly, that's enough. Leave the Adaptive Cruise Control for luxury cars and those drivers that want the extra gizmos that have nothing to do with performance. Good to know they have choices out there. Maybe you should consider the Corolla before the ZL1...

The Camaro is a DD for many, and many people also routinely drive on the highway (these two groups are, of course, not mutually exclusive). For these occasions, having adaptive cruise control would be nice. Ford offers it as an option in the Mustang; being a sports car or pony car does not preclude the Camaro from offering this feature, and for those that want it, it would be nice if it were offered as an option. |

First had adaptive cruise in a CTF XLR. I've hated it since. Leaves the perfect amount of space for people cut in front of you which slows your speed to create space between you and the car that just cut you off which leaves enough space..............................
FCA is plenty and that turns off your cruise. Now adaptive front braking? I haven't experienced that yet, but as often as my FCA goes off I can only imagine the number of false brake applications.

Doing a lot of highway driving I would love adaptive cruise. Speaking with people who have it they do not use it when traffic is heavy because it will slow you down with all the people cutting in front of you but in thin traffic just sit back and drive.
What I would love to have is the thermal imaging heads up. |
