so.... they took my switchblade key (for recall) :(

Brought my car in for some rubber and oil change and while I was giving my info a clerk mentioned the recall. I smiled and said firmly but politely I am going to opt out of the new key and I will be happy to sign the waver saying so.

Went to pick up my car this morning and what do you know my switch blade is gone and the ugly key is there in all its non glory form. I walk to the desk and show my receipt that showed I in fact opted out of the recall and demanded to know why I no longer have my switchblade. They apologized with all sincerity and promised to fix it. except now GM is refusing to re key the car! They are saying they can't change back.

Oh... I'd be pissed. I doubt I would ever do business with that dealership again.

huh, the car did not have to be re-keyed. Tell them to go in the back and get the key they took off you fob and put it back on.

Also, you still have the 2nd fob correct?

I would be talking to the general manager or the owner of this dealership....there is no way they can legally do what they did after you signed the waiver.

If they can't get you the switchblade keyfobs, it would take more than a free oil change to make me happy.....

They probably de-programmed all previous switchblade key fobs from the car.

OP: Go to http://www.keylessentryremotefob.com and call their number as their website is kind of messed up at the moment. They can sell you a Camaro key fob with a blank key on it, then all you have to do is take it to a locksmith to get it cut. You can program it to the car yourself... there are several tutorials on google for this. I think they are about $70 on that website including the flash program which is required.

Just another example why I do my own maintenance and I would never buy tires from dealer at there usual mark up I can find and pick out the exact tire I want and have them delivered and installed at one the local chains for way cheaper money. Maybe some dealers are better then other but I don't want to find out. Its like going out to get seafood at some chain restaurant thinking well some times it great and some times I get projectile vomiting form the food poisoning. I am not rolling those dice.

Dealers work is ussualy good its just the BS you have to go through I save them for last resort. If i can't fix it or good local shop that I trust can't I am stuck with the dealer. I just make sure I am good and lubed before I go in because i know whats coming and its going to hurt.

I'm due for an oil change. Think I'll do it myself, despite the 100 degree Texas heat.

Just buy a blank off ebay, and then buy a blank of the metal piece, and have a keysmith or whatever recut it into the blank, and then reprogram it to your car. Should be like $50 total.
That's what I'll do if I ever have to do the recall.
