I was sitting in the parking lot in park, but just the fact that it happened was just plain weird, crazy, caught me by surprise and made my think. Hmm, maybe there is something to all this.
That's really interesting. I'm actually glad to hear from someone that was able to do it so I know it's not total BS. When this first came out I tried everything I could think of to hit the key with my knee and I couldn't do it. But I'm old and not too flexible so maybe that's why.

Since last fall I received a letter saying I was going to get a recall letter. I then received the recall letter. Over the next few months I received 4 postcards about the recall. A few weeks ago I arranged to have the Camaro brought in for a safety inspection and I had the service guy go ahead and order the keys. I went in yesterday so they could put a key on my ebay fob so GM would leave me alone and so I could make it look like the recall was done in anticipation of DMV crap like posted above. They just handed me the 2 keys and said, "See ya". I took them home and threw them in a drawer for the next owner. I checked the mail and there was another pamphlet/brochure about it. Then an email today. My reply to the email:

"Jesus Christ. Enough already. I got this bogus recall done yesterday. I hope not to hear about it again."

They are covering their butt, its normal and smart business, especially these days with sue happy people. The more proof that they have that they tried to get you to change it, the far less likely you could have a successful suit against them should something happen because of it.

So jus do the recall. And than change it back. And you won't have to deal with the letters and emails anymore. Took me 10 minutes to do both keys. Check it out.

Got the bigger and better post card yesterday and the e-mail today.

I will see the dealer in June, when I go for a state inspection. We'll see what happens. Hopefully it will be a stress free conversation when I decline the "repair". My knee is about 5" from the key.

The recall should be to give us push start button, not a stupid key. Ugh

You all can laugh and criticize me but......I chose to get the new keys a couple weeks ago. I was getting tired of all the mail and emails about it.
It's really not bad (other than now looking dated with the separate key). You get used to it fast and it's not a big deal anymore. The only thing that still bothers me is the ugly hole on the fob where the key stem used to be.

I am not turning in my key.... BUT... if GM had done nothing and people had been hurt as a result of it, the outcry over this would be the opposite. For once, they are trying to do what they feel is the right thing (allbeit primarily for liability issues, I'm sure).
Great news! when are they starting on the clutch issue?....................crickets chirping...........................(sounds of deer eating grass)...................more crickets....
