Have you gotten bored of your stock power?

I have a 3.6 V6 and even coming out of an LS1 I havent really had the urge to mod my V6, however; I had planned to building my 99 Z28 to a 700 HP beast.. ..but looking over the finances and practicality I'm really considering abandoning my project and selling my 99, along with my V6 tagging on a rebate and down payment for an SS putting my payments in the upper 300's or lower 400's for a fully loaded 2SS. I'm struggling with the temptation because I love my 99 Z28 but still have a long way to go with it and in the end I will still want an SS as a garage car. If I kept the 99 I would build it out and buy a 17 / 18 SS around 2019 / 2020 just as a garage toy as my third Camaro.

With the SS though, I realize I can't touch it. Just test driving one though I doubt I would really have a need to mod it as the thing is insanely OP for a DD.

Have any of you guys gotten bored with the stock power? Even after a year of owning my V6 its still more than enough to make me grin and I hardly ever have my foot to the floor.

Yes. Don’t ever drive a car with an LT4. My SS hasn’t felt quite the same since.

No, not exactly bored with them, but the need to increase power is always there. I think it's like having money - you think you can eventually have "enough," but then you find that the more you get, the more you want.

In a way, I envy the old Corvette guys I see who think their bone stock cars are the best things on the road. However, I can't help but pity them for not realizing how fun modding can be! It's tricky

Every time I've gotten into a faster car I realized it would be difficult to go back. Or even to stay the same. Right now with the cars I have now I don't think I could ever go back. Just remember that if you ever do decide to upgrade. Because you adjust to the car. After driving a SS for a while your V6 would feel insufficient. And after throwing bolt-ons at a SS a stock SS would feel insufficient. And it only gets worse from there.

I'm strung between this being enough for what I "need", and it not being enough for what I "want".

I've owned higher hp cars, so there is definitely that gap where this one just doesn't seem to pull as hard, while on the other hand, when I find myself thinking that, I'm already on the freeway doing 25 mph faster than everyone else.

For me is about this:

"Driving a fun car fast is more fun than driving a fast car fast"

This. After half a year with my v6 1LE I haven't found that I wanted more power. If I need more, I just downshift the car makes some mouth-watering noises in the higher rpm range, too

If you buy a V6 you'll probably get bored. If you buy an Lt1 maybe not.

My v-6 is fine for me,power wise.If I had a v-8 I would want to stomp every car in the next lane at every stoplight.I'm well past doing that!

Yup, which is why the ProCharger was added with only 1900 miles

My ZL1 is slower than my previous Vette so I was bored with the stock power from day 1.

Its a sickness in a way but the word enough and power never exist in the same sentence for me. The process is always the same

- This car will have plenty of power stock for me im not modding it
- im gonna do a few mods but keep my warrenty (it still important at this point)
- im just gonna do an airbox
- im just gonna do a ported intake from Pray
- im gonna do the ported TB with it
- reality sets in denial ends and you say screw it warrenty is done
- longtubes E85 and tune
- right here this is the point in the process I sit at currently in this timeline
- I think im gonna go for a heads and cam setup from Pray as I really need it
- ?

this is my personal time frame of events and I know im not alone so the short answer YES you will get bored of stock power if your a speed junkie

Not bored, but yes, there's always that thirst for more power. Though, over the years, I've learned to tame that temptation as I got my priorities in order.

I drove a 260 hp car for 11 years and it put a grin on my face every time I got in it. Needless to say, 455 puts an even bigger grin, and I expect that it will for several years to come.

I do like low-end torque and chose an engine and trim that will satisfy that hunger without having to mod. If down the line, something comes along that's within my budget, I'll trade and jump, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
