I experienced the exactly same problem. First time I took into my dealer, they were not able to hear the noise in the morning but agreed to replace the differential fluid. Unfortunately that didn't fix the issue, so I took it back in few days later; this time they heard the issue and decided to replace the differential. I just got a call that they got the part and I'll be taking it in next week to get it replaced. It seems there are some issues with a batch of differentials. FYi my build date is late January 2016.

I am right in the middle of this too. Good luck!

Moaning noise on my 2SS when turning at slow speed when cold. Jan 16 build date so I guess it's in the batch of bad diffs too.

Just purchased my SS on 11/2016, started making the differential noise around 3,000 miles. Took to my dealer (Ferman Chevolet in Brandon FL) this month, they had my car for 2 days and they stated that they could not duplicate the issue. Well, I was able to reproduce the issue in the parking lot when I picked up my car. I asked the service adviser to take a ride with me so he can hear the noise but his excuse was that they were short staffed and could not.

I have to take my car back to the dealer this week because they replaced a defective right front tire during that last visit, but the dealer installed the wrong size. They installed a 275/35/20 in the front instead of a 245/40/20. Not feeling confident in their abilities to fix the diff noise if they can't get the tire size correct.

My fluid was replaced. Noise is reduced but definitely still present.

Well I pick it up tomorrow. They changed the rear fluid and fixed the dash rattle.

My dealer told me it was "the nature of the beast"

It seems to me to be the clutch in the differential slipping/grabbing and it goes away before I am out of my neighborhood. Occasionally I notice some slippage of the inside tire when turning (which would indicate a non-yielding limited slip).

Really these are characteristics that are desirable. I don't want a sloppier limited slip. And performance cold vs hot shouldn't be the same. Although a proper design would have me not notice. Proper design means things should work perfect always huh (haha)

Maybe the fix puts in a fluid with a different friction coefficient or additive or modifier or something - more slippier

I think I'm ok with a grabby diff

UPDATE: 7500 miles and the noise is almost completely gone, in fact I have not noticed it all for the last week, and this morning there was a very slight groan around the first sharp low speed turn and then not again.

I am convinced that this is just a break-in thing, and it's perfectly fine. I was told that break-in takes about 6000 miles anyway...

Pathetic response from GM

I have the same issue. That pathetic response is simply not acceptable. I dropped 65k CAD for a brand new 2SS and if they think I'm going to settle for a vibrating/groaning back end they better lawyer up. Maybe class action suit. Enough of us have the issue.

I hope you have better luck than I did.

you can lawyer up and cry or just add a few oz of LSD lubricant and it would be fixed. this has been an issue for decades on end there is no 100% fix, some diffs need more LSD additive period. Yes Chevy as using a little too much phosphate to set the gear lash and this added to the problem. So get some lawyers amen, they always help. Of squeeze in a few oz of diff quite.
