Is a good deal worth not getting a warranty?
Recently someone totaled my 2016 2SS and now I'm looking to buy another. Most used 2016 2SS's in my area (500 mile radius) are going for about 36-37k with about 1-10k miles and basically no options besides a few with the dual mode exhaust. However, there is a dealer that sells Corvettes and Camaros that were previously used at Ron Fellows Driving school, a GM licensed driving school. The Camaros however were only used as pace cars and only driven by instructors. There are a few I'm looking at in there inventory that are priced at 34-35k, with 6-8k miles, that all have magnetic ride control , dual mode exhaust, upgraded 6 piston brake kit, and 2/3 have moon roofs. These are also the only used manuals within a 500 mile radius of me. The problem is that these cars have the 3yr/36 basic warranty but have no suspension or brake warranty and a limited powertrain warranty, the salesman said that this is common for cars used at manufacturer licensed driving schools.
My other options are, wait for another manual to be listed online (which will most likely either have no options or be priced a lot higher if it does,) get an automatic, or to get another one from across the country and have it shipped, which I don't really want to do. If you were in my situation what would you do? Its a really good deal and they are the only manuals in my area but Im really scared about the limited warranty but at the same time, I was planning to get an intake, headers and exhaust eventually so that would void the warranty anyways. |

Personally I would avoid ex track-used cars, instructors can be as hard or harder on them as students. There is a reason they have more equipment and yet are cheaper than the others. I'd rather make a 500 mile drive to retrieve a more typical one.

For me personally op warranty is no big deal to me. I bought my ss brand new and within one day of delivery my warranty was toast lol. I sent mine off to get major mods less than a month of ownership.

OP, why limit the search to 500 miles? There are many dealers who deliver coast to coast for reasonable price.

Personally I wouldn't be worried if that is the car equipped as you want

Warranty is useful if you want the dealer to fix something that broke with an OEM part.
If your plan is to mod anyway, those aftermarket parts were going to be out of pocket anyway and you were either going to install them yourself or pay someone anyway. Seems like you choose one of the above to get your answer? Though, if you're in the first category, I'd shy away from a track car. That sounds worse than a formal rental car. |

Track driving does not void the warranty, if they dont have a redflag on the warranty then i dont see how dealers will deny anything. I read somewhere on here that one of the designers himself said track driving does not void your warranty. Do not listen to that salesman.

I myself take just the basic warranty when I purchase a new car. Unless you get the wear and tear warranty, suspension wont be covered. Since it is a wear and tear part, they usually never warranty those type of things unless it was a factory defect. But I could be wrong.

If you plan to mod the car within the first year, then maybe some of the stuff that is not under warranty will not matter.
Me personally, I'd never consider buying a car that was used for a driving school like that, it's been driven pretty hard, and for only a $2-3k savings that's not worth it to me. |

In this case I think the powertrain warranty is being voided because it was used by a business. (Just my interpretation)

I would not touch this personally. If you start getting issues with your car and it is not covered, all this can turn into your worst nightmare, especially just to save 2-3k. You really do not want to experience this.
