Can I switch the tire sidewall around without rebalancing the whole wheel?
I was driving along when I came upon a road that was being prepared for asphalt. They rough graded it down to the base grade level, but they left a stupid 1" ledge of old asphalt near the right lane. I inadvertantly drove near the ledge and my right front tire got slightly scraped just below the tread area on the sidewall section. I tried to burnish the rubber and it did make it less noticeable, but I can still see the scratches in the rubber.
Is it possible to flip the tire around on the rim (inner sidewall now facing outside) without having to rebalance the whole wheel again? I'm thinking that if tire shop marks where the tire is in relation to the rim, they can flip the tire around and I won't have to rebalance the wheel. Thoughts? |

Flipping a tire on the wheel will still need to be re-balanced. The tire shop flipping the tire should balance it without question.

Shouldn't matter on a V-6.

If they have the wheel off the car why not at least check the balance before putting it back on?
Are you trying to save ten dollars or something?

Also make sure they aren't "directional". Most probably aren't, but my non-stock ones are.

I would definitely have them rebalanced, otherwise you'll get vibrations and uneven tire wear.

If you remove the tire and flip the tire around you will need to rebalance the tire/wheel assembly. The tire has a three dimensional balance and is not totally uniform (i.e. different side wall flex from side to side around the tire, etc). The same 3 D balance issue is true of the wheel (usually to a lesser extent though). OEMs usually match balance and road force balance a tire/wheel assembly. Flipping the tire around may cause a small vibration or a very harsh one so I would rebalance and do a road force measurement on the assembly.

you're either being an ass or ignorant. Neither is a valid excuse.
like others have said, gotta rebalance everything. it doesn't cost much to do it right the first time. |

It wouldn't matter on a SS either with a square setup .

it may be a dumb question to you, but not to others. I have no problem with the question, cause I would rather him have it done right than for him to hurt himself or others.
Oh, and I wouldn't get to cocky cause I am sure you have plenty of questions I would consider a "dumb-ass question" that I could respond to with a "sarcastic response" Internet trolls...
