Repainted a bumper

I'm about to buy a bumper I found locally and it's a different color than my car, will a body shop just be able to sand it and paint it the color of my car?... Sorry for the dumb question but need to know before I buy also can they paint it while it not on my car? Then install when it's dry? Because I only have this car and don't want to get a rental if I don't have to. Tell me your thoughts!!

I hope they can lol. Painting it while its off the car is the best idea in my opinion.

A good body shop should have no problem matching your paint.

Depending on the factory color & if it's not faded, they should be able to match it. They'll probably want the car there to get a good match though.

The body shop told me they could paint the bumper without the car but it made me nervous if I went to install the bumper it wouldn't match up!.. I probably have paint fade I have 90,000 miles on my 2011

I would simply go with whatever they suggest, so if there's an issue, it's on them them & not me.

For the front depending on the color you might want to take the car in so they can blend the new paint into the front bumpers and hood. Other wise it will be VERY apparent that the front end was replaced.

$300 is way too low. Paint materials by themselves are prob $200, labor to repair and prep the used new bumper, plus labor to remove your old bumper, transfer all the pieces from the old bumper , then put the new bumper on. $800+ is what shops in my region would charge.

A quality shop won't need to blend any panels to match paint on a bumper, a good painter can compensate for faded paint and adjust the color. They might end up throwing a quick buff/polish on the adjacent panels to bring back some gloss for a better match.

Leave the car with them if u can, it's the best way to ensure a good color match.

I paint cars and without knowing all the details it's hard to say if it's a good deal or not. If all they have to do is scuff, seal, base, clear and they have an in-house mixer then $300 is fair. If they have to do any major repair/refinish then they are too cheap. No need to have the car there while they paint. I paint rear spoilers off of the paint codes all the time and since like your bumper, they are on a different plain, color match will be no issue. Now if spraying a fender and getting it to match 100% to a door without blending especially if it's metallic, that's a whole other ball game
