Honestly, I think it's a bad move. You're taking a pretty big loss for minimal gains. I love my 2LT, but I think you're better off keeping the SS unless you're just barely scraping by on the payments

The only reason I bought a v6, was because of my 80 mile trek every day. I also plan on giving it to my son when he's old enough to drive it.
The V6 gets a lot of hate, but I can laugh at an SS guy and say you should have bought a ZL1. I can do the same thing to a ZL1 guy and say you should have bought a Z28. Who needs a racecar when I have no intentions of racing it? Sure I could have bought an SS, but I'd rather enjoy why I bought the car, it's a Camaro. People say the savings aren't worth it.... I've had my car 1 year, 22K miles. In my V6, I'm averaging 22MPG. At an average of $2.50 for 22K miles, that's 1,000.00 gallons or $2,500.00 in gas. Ive seen a v8 gets about 16MPG. That's 1,375.00 gallons or $3,437.50 in gas. That's a savings of $937.50 annually or $78.13 a month. I saw someone say its a $10 different for them in insurance monthly. $88 a month is a pretty good savings when your saving for a kids college education. This doesn't include the car payment price difference that goes up quite a bit when going from a V6 to a v8 with the same equipment. So I don't hear the rumble of a v8. I came from a 4cl, the v6 suits me just fine. Last edited by custommx3; 10-06-2015 at 03:23 PM. |

Why is everyone bashing on this person? V8 owners have the power, but how many times have they REALLY used it??? Unless they are tracking the car, probably never. OP, if you find that you get this car, and want to change the intake back to the original, I have one I will give you. You pay shipping. It has 8000 miles on it.

sounds like a logical move, given what the OP is trying to do...which is have more $ in his pockets! Bottom line, OP, it is your $ and no one here can have a say to that. If they think they do, they are not worth paying attention to. Spend it any way you like, only You know what is best for you. How can you possibly go wrong? You would still be owning a Camaro! F the haters.

look i want a car with less than 25k miles. if i buy a v8 with under 25k miles itll probably cost me close to 30k. i can get a v6 with under 25k miles for 20k. thats $10k difference. outside of that ONLY people that will bash me for driving a v6 are guys.. and im not gay so idc 99% of girls cant tell a difference between v6 or a v8, to them a camaro is a camaro. so idc if i get bashed. i have a heavy foot, i drive ALOT, i want a newer camaro with good mpg.
if i trade my 41k mile v8 for a v8 with 20k miles id do it and be happy lol. |

Haaa. What are you smoking OP? Whatever it is, I wanna stay faaaar away from it. I expect to see you back here soon wishing you didn't go for the V6. Brakes are worse. Handling is worse and of course it's gonna feel like a dog. I guess you can upgrade all that stuff though on the V6 but then you'll be at the cost of the SS again before long
To each his own but I think it's a mistake. When you do the math, chances are the V8 isn't costing you the big difference you think you'll save. Unless you're on the road ALOT. I didn't read all the posts so perhaps that's the case but I'd keep the SS and buy a beater Civic to get the MPG then and still have more fun when you want in the SS. Oh boy...... I could go on and on. J |

Like others have said, it's your car, your money and you can do what you want, but 41k miles isn't really that many miles for these cars. you gotta stray away from looking at the scenario of if you bought an ss today with less than 25k miles it would be $30k, and a v6 would be $20k, that's not a $10k savings if you got your current SS for $24k paid taxes and such (call it $26k), trade in value at $22k (eat $4k over the course of 3 months), finance a 2010 at $20k, plus tax, lic, etc.. again, $22k, your trade in breaks you even, you're out that $4k and now just have a slightly lower car payment, slightly lower insurance and slightly lower gas bill... but you lost $4k and in the hole another $2k, so thats $6k you're out... gas, insurance and car payment isn't going to spin that in the 'saved money' direction for quite a few years...
