I read an interesting article on EVs this morning. I'm copying a few tidbits below.

"The green "revolution" is an elite-driven, top-down technocratic project...it's increasingly clear that the only reason giant rent-seeking carmakers are so heavily invested in EV development is that government is promising to artificially limit the production of gas-powered cars.

In today's real-world economy, Ford projects it's going to lose $3 billion on electric vehicles in 2023, bringing its EV losses to $5.1 billion over two years. In 2021, Ford reportedly lost $34,000 on every EV it made. This year, it was losing more than $58,000 on every EV.

Last week, the U.S. Energy Department lent Ford — again, a company that loses tens of thousands of dollars on every EV it sells — another $9.2 billion in taxpayer dollars for a South Korean battery project.

A recent University of California at Berkeley study found that 90% of tax credits for EVs go to people in the top income strata.

the fact is that if EVs were more efficient and saved us money, as enviros and politicians claim, consumers wouldn't have to be compelled into using them and companies wouldn't have to be bribed into producing them."

Buyers pay the price they're willing to bear.
The $7500 of public federal funds splits between them...
...and the (now obscenely wealthy) famous illegal immigrant Musk? https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1...932474368.html
Take this with healthy skepticism. The info does come from a pro-estab. twitter account, that used DC protesters' social media accounts against them.
...even Snopes (while defending him) published these quotes:
KIMBAL: When they did fund us, they realized that we were illegal immigrants.
ELON: Well...
KIMBAL: Yes we were!
ELON: It was a grey area.

That guy nails it.

My favorite line - We're still pretending EVs are a new idea rather than an inferior one. - about sums it up.

Ford has cut the price of the F150 Lightning by $10K and is trying to spin it as a good thing. They claim to be passing on lower material costs and savings from better manufacturing efficiency.

The market disagrees

That's an interesting article. I'm hoping that this massive push for EV's is just a phase and that it won't last for too long. My uncle has a Tesla and it's pretty sweet, and like the guy said in the article, to each their own. But coercing companies and consumers to cater to an agenda is just not the way to do it.

I hope that eventually it will simmer down and the "war" against internal combustion will stop.

Turns out solar is more carbon intensive than natural gas.

The grift continues.

From the article:
The IMF is heavily involved in international money flows and one can only hope it shows a greater willingness to ‘evaluate’ this subject matter than it does the predictions of climate models. Dr. Clauser secured his Nobel Prize for groundbreaking work in the field of quantum mechanics – the study of matter and light at a sub-atomic and atomic level. In 2010 he was awarded the Wolf Prize in Physics, considered the second most prestigious physics award after the Nobel. In addition to this work, he has also made suggestions as to how to improve current climate models.

Attempts to model the chaotic and non-linear atmosphere suffer on many fronts. They fail to predict future temperatures with mostly laughably degrees of inaccuracy, and in the process do little more than guess the effect of natural forces such as volcanoes and clouds. In Clauser’s view, climate models greatly underestimate the effect of the clouds that cover half the Earth and provide a powerful – and dominant – thermostatic control of global temperatures. More recently, Clauser also told the Korea Quantum Conference that he didn’t believe there was a climate crisis, noting: “Key processes are exaggerated and misunderstood by approximately 200 times.”

The cynical might add that this degree of exaggerated inaccuracy might be fine in the land of economics, but more robust standards should be encouraged in the world of science.

And the hits just keep coming. Imagine you’re a crew member on a car transport ship and you suddenly have a very hot, almost impossible to extinguish fire burning. What would that be like? Hint - not pretty.

Now imagine you insure these vessels and you realize that if an EV lights off, chances are you lose the cargo AND the ship. Not to mention dead people, lots of injuries, environmental damage…and of course the inevitable lawsuits.

One more straw on the back of the EV cost camel.

I wonder if Mary and her suits factored in the inability to ship EVs over water?
