Actual dyno tune is better.

Both have advantages and disadvantages. A remote tune is a pretty easy no hassle way to get your car tuned especially if you are a good driving distance away from the nearest performance shop and you have limited time to do it. The handheld that you will buy can then be used as a scanner to clear codes.
It is possible that with a remote tune, you may leave a small amount of hp on the table. So then you would have to datalog your car on the street or at the track to have new updated files sent to you to upload.

A dyno tune to alot of people is a better way to get the most out of your tune. You can do it all in 1 session, plus you get to see exactly what your car is putting down to the rear wheels.
Just depends on what you want out of your tune.

If it's headers only, It's gonna be an easy tune.

Depends on the tuners. I've seen mail order tunes that are way better than local dyno tunes and I've seen the opposite. Can't say one or the other is better. Same tuner a dyno tune will be better but a jackass on a dyno won't do as well as a quality mailorder.

That's definitely an opinion!

The reputable tuners that sponsor this site are quite adept at mail-order tunes, as they have dyno-tuned paractically every bolt-on scenario out there. Also, with datalogging, they can fine-tune the dial-in very accurately.

Agreed, but as the tuners themselves will tell you they would rather have the car on the dyno. That being said I wouldnt shy away from a email tune for headers only.

Those same tuners will tell you that they can usually get within a couple HP of a good dyno tune. That means they can get even more when they have the car on their rollers. So what ST1LE said is true. Now, most here will tell you that it probably isn't worth the time, gas, effort for a headers/CAI only car, and I agree with that.

A dyno tune costs significantly more than a custom tune. And it is more time consuming. For headers and CAI and all the everyday bolt-on stuff, I'd stick with a custom email tune. Save the dyno tune for when you get into cams and heads and aftermarket or ported intake manifolds and superchargers...that stuff. Because most places will offer a free dyno tune with installation of those items. The extra 5 maybe 10 hp from a dyno tune is not worth the extra few hundred dollars, travel time, and dyno time as opposed to a custom tune. And like mentioned before, the real ggod shops can get you close enough to a dyno tune anyway.

Can be costly.
Have to go back to the rollers for any changes (more $$).
Gas, time, effort.

Those being said, if you have anything more than bolt-ons, you really need to dyno tune it regardless of the above.
