Cam still in use Y/N: Y
Cam type/brand: Comp
Cam Specs: 230/234 .613/.598 114+2 (dialed back to +1)
Cam miles: 34K
Forced induction: Maggie (5.5 psi )--9k miles
Power level: 568/493
Oil type: Mobil 1 5w30 (just switched to Joe Gibbs LS-30)
Oil Pump: Melling HV
Date of cam purchase: 9/2011

Katech C5R timing chain, .650-lift dual valve springs (Lunatti for first 25K [still looked good after removal], PRC since then)...

I noticed my oil pressure at idle, once warmed up, has been lower than usual lately (14-15 psi), but goes back up over 30 under throttle. Should I be concerned? The car has just under 70K total miles.

You completely took what I said out of context. Read my post again. Cunningham only wanted people with 50k miles or more to post their setups, which is kind of silly, because who's to say someone with 5-10k doesn't drive their car as hard or harder than someone with 50k? There shouldn't be a "mileage paramater" IMO. I understand that mileage = wear, but how hard you drive your car is a contribution to that as well.

It makes more sense to gather a wide range of data through short/long mileage setups, and other variables to come up with more information.

Either way.

I think it would be nice to just have a thread about cammed cars period. For more than just seeing failures.

All the questions you asked earlier, plus one line to put your springs, oil pump, rockers, timing chain, pulley, etc.

Maybe a line about track use.

Sorry SS. I agree with you.

This will remain open to everyone regardless of mileage and failures. It can be compiled for stats outside the thread if a true failure analysis is to be attempt. My 0.02

fldrummer hope don't mind stealing template.
Cam still in use Y/N: N
Cam type/brand: Comp Custom 3Bolt Cam
Cam Specs: 230's 617/621 113+2
Cam miles: 13k
Forced induction: EForce 3.25 Pulley (8.5 psi to 10+ ) 18k
Power level: Mid 600's.
Oil type: Mobil 1 prior to Cam install. RP HPS 5w-30 after.
Oil Pump: Melling HV
Date of cam purchase: 5/2012

Katech C5R timing chain, .650-lift dual valve springs Comp Trunion Kit all other top end supporting parts etc. ARH 1 7/8" CAI Intake,#" Exhaust. KB BAP ZL1 Pump JRE EFORCE Fuel Mod. Stock bottom.

Car ran flawless since top end work for close to 19 months.Conservative Pump gas tune. Always good oil pressure temp etc. Getting on gas somewhere in the neighborhood of 4.5k-5k. Slight vibration immediately followed by boom shrapnel and oil cloud out back. No time to react. Engine hasn't been torn apart yet however hole in block around #5 and #7. Fuse could have been lit by bad tune originally at FI install and/or imho maybe too much boost. Who knows.

Once it's warmed up, mine is also 14-15 psi. My stock set up was around 30 psi and I used Mobile 1. My build included a Melling high volume pump and I started using Redline. Still using a GM filter.

GM tolerances are pretty extreme from low to high. I've pulled my heads twice and I have had no issues. My valve train is pretty noisy too. Includes 10 runs at the track.

My psi has been consistent since the build. If yours was something else and then just suddenly dropped to 14-15 psi, I'd have it checked out.

Yes, if you are going to make a sticky maybe the members who aren't having issues can attach a video of the car running for the members who want a cam but can't decide which one they want or need.

BTW
The page you created is great and it is very informing of what to look out for.

I can add that line. You are right, all cams should be in, failed or not. When we compile the numbers after a while we will be able to weed out what we want.

At least you are keeping an eye on it. I never did. My bearings just slowly wore down over time from the finite metal from he cam that it finally le me know. Car was running GREAT even when I broke the engine down to see.

Yes. Too much info is always better than not enough.

Ah, you mean for the failures. I suppose it could help. In my experience these noises are always a tad different. Same noise, but ........ different. haha

Mine failed with 65K miles but it was caused by a failed lifter which was caused by a failed rocker trunion 20K mile back. The cam was Comp 231/234, .617/.620 on 114 LSA. All other lobes looked good.

G6X3 going in when I get home from work trip next month.

The real question is how many vvt cams have failed. I'm just curious about those because I'm wanting GPIs vvt3 cam some time soon

is there a way to organize this thread better? Such as new posts get added to a spreadsheet based on size and brand? I'm betting we would see a trend where the failures rise exponentially based on size...
