Custom all steel fender vent
 Something I just threw together on an old fender I will be splicing into a damaged fender on my 2010camaro nose el camino project when I update it to a 2016 like look. Vent is inspired by Ferarri 599 gtb vents. Cut out the face of the fender up to 1/4 " from the edge, which is where I'll be splicing it in anyways. Bent a new section with the 2 angle bends & bent soft corners onto the edges before welding it to the face of fender. Then made a 1/8" x 1/9" soft corner for the front edge. Made sample grille. Tacked with mig while holding by hand & completed welds with tig

Reminescent of the late 70s early 80s Z/28 fender vents.
Mid 70s were more like gills.

This is what I'm replacing. Though similar, think the custom one is a big improvement over the 79' Z-28 add in part. Looks more uniform also.
 Figured I'd see if I could inspire someone to make them something. I started with a whole new section to eliminate 2 weld seams since I was splicing near the fender end anyway, but most people would just slit the metal back up to the end of the fender & weld in 2 triangle shapes. |
