Question L99 owners, talk to me

How is the power, and is the car gratifying to drive?

I had originally been set on the M6, but as time marched on, my better half has gotten more and more into the new Camaro, and is now as excited as I am about the whole thing, and really wants to be able to drive it... I'm not insecure, you can call me a girl for driving an auto if you want. The point is, she really loves the car, and really wants to be able to drive it (and not worry she's going to break it) as well.

The M6 is still on the table, but I wanna hear about the A6, and how it behaves etc, etc...

PS: I told her that if we went A6, she'd have to let me supercharge the beast. To this, she agreed

Umm. I was kind of disappointed by the car at first, but as the motor breaks in it gets better. I would say a tune is a must for the trans. Thats what made it night and day. Oh and 3600 stall.

I've heard the break-in makes a big diff. How much did the tune run you?

I love mine. I went back and forth many times about getting stick or auto, grew up with mainly manuals 74 SS nova, GT mustang 5.0, etc. all sticks. I live in an area with a ton of stop signs and lights and I just knew that would get old real quick with a stick so I went with auto.

This 6 speed auto is pretty awesome. The torque and take off power is unreal, very easy to light up the tires in fact I have trouble preventing tires from spinning in trying to get a good 0-60 MPH time without traction control on. The tap shift is kind of a novelty to me, not something I normally drive around doing but it's occasionally interesting. This is not a true paddle shift, those transmissions cost more than the entire car. However this tranny shifts quickly and with sport mode on it has nice aggressive shift points.

Don't worry about the 6HP or whatever difference, the 1/4 times and 0-60 times are very similar and that's all that matters when driving the car. Nobody races by showing you a dyno slip. If you really enjoy the process of pushing that clutch in and out then go for stick, your wife can learn it easily, it's very simple and not something to be scared about. Some make it out to be rocket science or something. Either way I don't think you will be dissapointed both are great cars and have very similar performance numbers. To me it's just a matter of convenience. I will adding exhaust, long tubes, supercharger etc and that should make my L99 quick enough for an around the town driver.

Does the paddle shift really let you handle the shifting? My girl's IS250 has an A6 paddleshift as well, but it will upshift for you if you wait too long, and it downshifts for you every time...

yes, it will hold the gear until you change it. I believe it will prevent a dangerous downshift though, so if you are maxed out in third gear and attempt to downshift to second I believe it will not allow it. Think of it as the old school auto levers where you could select 1st, second or drive but in this case you can select any gear 1st through 6th, putting the shifters on the wheel just makes it easier than moving the lever back and forth.

Typically this transmission shifts just fine in M(sport) mode. If you drive it casually it shifts casually, if you get on the throttle it holds the shifts longer, and if you are at WOT then hold on and it shifts at high RPM levels.

you can always test drive one or rent one. Without ever driving one I was going to go with stick just from previous experience with autos but then I rented an SS auto for a couple days and was very happy with it's performance and that helped in my decision making.

Call me a girl for having an L99. I'll break your face.

But really. I do wish sometimes I had the LS3 but you won't be bummed at all. It's as fast.
