There's not a single race, NASCAR, V8 Supercar, or otherwise that uses heal on brake with toes on gas. It's ALWAYS toes on brake and heals on gas. Evergreen6 is correct, not the other way around.
That said, does it work doing it the other way? Sure, and each person learns differently, but I've yet to have anybody in the professional racing world or otherwise show me other then heel to gas. I would presume it's because it's easier for you to lift your heel off the gas and continue pressing brake with your toes vs the other way around. |

Look Carefully
Of course it depends on the foot size and pedal size etc. but with him he uses his foot and rocks it on to the gas, not really using toes but side of his foot.

That was my point and what my photo shows. But Everyone has to do what they are comfortable with.

Heel Toe is such a bad term for it IMO. I was taught and have always noticed it is more the side of the foot that does the gas and its more of a leg motion than a heel toe thing. when I was at Bondurant they taught me to use the outside area of the foot while floating my heal with toe oriented on brake and blip with the side of the foot much like Evergreen6's pic.

I will add that the shoes make a huge difference. I've been driving mostly in deck shoes which I find easier to HT. Today, I drove 130 miles in my running shoes and I simply couldn't feel the pedals through those thick shock absorbing soles. Less is better in a driving shoe, for sure.

I'm not sure sure it's "end of discussion."
I personally do both. It all depends on whether I want more control on the gas or the brake. I tend to use my toes on the pedal I want more control with and my heel on the pedal I just want to mash the shit out of. |
