Will the 2013 ZL1 have more HP?
Just saw the news that the 2013 GT500 is rated at 662hp. That is ford's answer to our beast. Since they upped the hp on the shelby, is Chevy doing any ups on the hp for the ZL1?

Not at all, that will pretty much upset the current owners of the ZL1. After the long wait for a 2012, it would be horrible if they decide to change their mind and increase it in 2013. All of the 2012 owners are going to want the upgrade

I say yes. Why wouldn't they? Nowhere near 660 but I'm willing to bet there will be a small increase.

I don't think the 2013 will, but I could see the 2014 ZL1 going out with a bang and a huge HP number??

I think it's a stretch to get a higher HP ZL1 for 2013. Production starts mid June, would be tough to get everything recertified for new HP numbers by then.
But a small part of me is holding out hope that they do

99% doubt it will happen. But maybe for the 2014 model.
Does it really matter though? Even if they pushed it to 700 HP (which will never happen) it would still really only be maybe equal to the GT500 (in sheer 1/4 mile performance potential) because of the weight difference. Adding that much power will require basically retesting and recalibrating all aspects of the car again. They could bump it to 600....but honestly thats equals about a zero % difference in the overall outcome. Bring on the Alpha platform!

I will agreee with the ablove and say that the 2013 will not. Not because they are not capable, but because of the recertification process. I would hope they did for 2014. Better internals and a 2.3L huffer would be pretty snazzy. |
