Once that nut comes off, then you essentially are taking the strut apart. Only the very top nut comes off to remove the strut from the car, then you must use spring compressors before removing the second nut.
It doesn't look like there's enough thread there for the top hat to bolt back on. Also, please note that if you jack the car up like it is now, be prepared for the strut to drop out of the tower because there's no top hat to hold it in the car now. You'll need to be careful to somehow support that knuckle while jacking it up to keep it from popping out and tearing the brake line possibly when the whole assembly flops out. The rubber bushing might keep it stuck in there long as you don't turn the wheel or anything once the tire is off the ground. Unfortunately you're going to need a new strut there, I don't think there is any saving that. You might also need an impact to get that nut off since you know longer have anyway to keep the shaft from spinning.

I would hope a flatbed would be ok. Man, this sucks. Sorry about your luck. Try not to feel too bad, everyone has made mistakes. Could have been worse.

Not trying to be mean here but don't use a 35k car to learn about auto mechanics.

You can remove it without compressing the suspension, the nut under it is what keeps tension on the suspension. What you do need to do is have an allen wrench in the top which for some reason I don't see in your photo. I have had mine out at least 6 times swapping factory for coil-overs and back when the coil-overs go out for rebuild.
