Just a suggestion if financing, any option listed as dealer installed can be purchased afterward. If its on your sticker, you'll have to pay interest on those items. I bought my car off dealer stock and it was missing a couple options I would have ordered. When I took delivery I had the sales person order me the subwoofer, floor mats, car cover, and center console lid. He even gave a couple hundred off of it all. My sticker was $58,445 but the additions would have pushed it over 60.

No more car payments for me, but a good rule of thumb that has served me well over the years is this:
Total amount you finance payment
15000 300
20000 400
25000 500
30000 600
These figures are in rough terms, but they are fairly accurate for 5 year terms. For every 5000 in loan value you can add 100 to your monthly payment. Easy to remember and easy to figure out what you'll pay. If you go 6 years, it won't work. Frankly though in my opinion, 72 months will take forever for you to build any equity (not be upside down) in the vehicle and should be avoided unless you have no other option.

Here in CA it's not even close to a mortgage payment.

Not quite the most expensive. Add a convertible top, extra cost paint, and microsuede package to that list, and then it will be the same thing I have.

I'm not sure what all was put down on mine. My wife traded my Porsche Cayman on it when I was out of town for work. Payments are $312/month at 2.99% for 72 months through BB&T. We went with the longest term, so we could get the lowest monthly obligation. We snowball our debts, so we always pay off our bills way ahead of time. Getting the lowest monthly obligation allows us some wiggle room if one of us has a change in employment status.

Actually, depending on the rate, the longer you can go the better. This is finance 101, if you can earn a better rate of return than what you are paying, you do it. Take the increased cash flow you have from going with a seven year term vs. three and invest it at a higher rate and you will be much further ahead in the long run.

The vantage point of any dollar amount directly correlates to a person's income/expenses. I have 3 payments currently on cars, $510 for my wife's 13 2SA Malibu, $190 for my 12 1LT/RS Cruze that I put $4000 down on and $580 for my 12 2SS/RS TF3 car that I put $10,000 down on. For my situation, I'm done. The money I'm putting out leaves us with about $1600 spending money per month after all bills are paid. At this point, I just can not afford a ZL1 or GT500. Maybe in a couple years I will be able to consider my options again.

On those numbers have you included any [ forced ] or otherwise savings , retirement budget , vacation money , etc ?
Just didn't see it there , even the emergency fund
The times change , from one direction to another , and most of us don't even know beforehand
So it's allways a good thing , to have a box with something in , just in case
And I think that's one of the reasons so many people get in trouble so quick , soon after a big pursage .
