The car will have the code stored in the PCM. Run by an Autozone and get them to pull the code then post it here. There literally hundreds of codes. Could be anything. I used to get an Onstar e-mail with the code before Onstar expired.

Pulling the fuse for the exhaust flaps will not cause a code.

Says he checked it, but that was my first thought too. My wife has gotten that multiple times in her Buick. The last time she got a light I asked her to check her gas cap. She insisted she had closed it and went to the dealer to check it. Guess what! It was the gas cap!

lol I definitely checked the gas cap. I pulled out the manual and saw where it listed some of the possible things that could cause the light to come on. The gas cap was one of them. I felt stupid that it could be such a simple thing. I got out of the car, walked around to the gas cap, checked it, and felt better about myself, because it was on correctly. I haven't filled up with fresh gas since the light was on. The light was off this morning. That's why I think it was bad gas. I filled up with gas before taking a little trip to visit a buddy. We did some cruising around, and I needed some gas before my trip back home. It was on my trip home that I noticed the light was on. I'm guessing the gas I got before my trip up is what caused it, then the gas I got before driving back made it go back out. Maybe the bad gas gummed things up, and the good gas cleaned it back out. I don't know. Just a guess. But the cap was definitely installed correctly. lol

If bad gas is used, should the 'octane fuses' be pulled at some point in the future after good gas is run through?

It wouldn't hurt to do that for good measure anyways. BTW there are several fuses to pull when your resetting the octane tables. Not just one.

To the OP my fuse has been pulled for many months now with no check engine light. It is possible that the light coming on is a false positive. It's rarer now but still possible.

I do the 5 and 20 fuse pull periodically and I can tell a difference every time. We only have 91 octane in AZ and I think sometimes if you get bad gas or if there is an issue with the octane the fuse pull fixes it.

So I should pull the same fuses? Do I just pull and reinstall? Does the vehicle need to be running?

No. Haven't had the chance. I'm working out of state and work has me slammed. I'm supposed to drive home tomorrow, and I'll need an oil change. I'll get it checked then (probably Friday).
