SS driver's seat - what are the options?

2010 SS, been a daily driver since new, the seat has taken a licking. To top it off, there's some lumbar or something internal that rattles around sometimes, and I expect the seat heater is burned out (I saw a video that describes the symptom - you press the button, the light turns off in 60 seconds).

Interested what the options are with front seats now - do you repair? Reskin? Can I still buy a new stock skin, or whole seat, somewhere? Are there people in a big city who do this kind of work?

I figure if I have to replace with something different the passenger needs to be replaced too to not look stupid.

Thanks,
Matt

Stock skins are discontinued. I was able to get the bottom cover redone for $190, but they replaced about all the panels. You might be able to just replace those two panels and the piping, but still going to cost a bit. That perf leather is the most expensive material to replace.

If they have upholstery shops around here, surely there are some around Austin.

If you want to go the used route, good seats run around 4-500 and are fairly easy to replace, but there is a wiring difference in airbag systems on passenger side between 2010/11 and 2012/15.

Looks like the GM black seat covers are all discontinued but you might still scare one up somewhere if you find a helpful dealer parts guy. GM part #22795653 for the back (you need to confirm part # matches your options).

You should be able to find a upholstery shop in a big city that can replace panels in your seat and a good one should be able to match and repair yours to be unnoticeable. You might check with a good automotive detailing shop to see if they have any recommendations.

And there are aftermarket replacements but you would probably want to replace at least both front seats to get them to match.

I've got the same '10 SS.. Just curious, how many miles in your Camaro?
Mine has 72,000 miles and the seats are just fine.
Good luck on your search.

its weird too,all these esats have a different pattern of wear.some go forever and dont wear as the OPs have, but look terrible on the bottoms where his look pretty good.if nothing else maybe you could source one with a bad bottom cushion for cheap and put together a good seat.edit...is that sun damage maybe?

About my car/seats.

- My car has 120,000 miles.
- Until recently (got a new car, trying to make garage space) this car has conspicuously *rarely* sat outside anywhere, always under cover in home or work garage.
- Passenger seat is relatively pristine

I think the wear pattern has to do with how I adjust it to sit and get in/out of the car. Others of different height and physique may do it differently. I'm probably leaning hard on that corner where others don't ever touch it.

(Annoyed this combined site only really lets me list one car, and it's my Gen6 - the second car is what *allows* me elbow room to fix up my Gen5 like it deserves)

Oh yeah, and I'm worried about the ZL1's more aggressive Alcantara bolsters from how I get in and out. It could almost be said these days I'm 'twice the man' who bought the 2010, sadly. . . .

a decent upholstery shop should be able to replace or repair those panels without much issue. a friend of mine purchased a set of seats for his crown vic out of a Marauder. the driver's side airbag deployed so had a gaping hole in the side of it. guy repaired the exiting panel and you could not see it.

It looks like there are quite a few shops in your area.

Standard, I have both front seats out of my '15 1LE that I'd let go of for $500. They only have 22k miles on them. PM me your phone number and I'll send pics, if you're interested. I'm just down IH35 about an hour from you.

There are a few threads on how to make a 2012+ passenger seat work correctly in a 2010. I did it when I got some Recaros and it was not that bad.

I've got a bead on a drivers seat that looks identical to mine.

For DRIVERS seat, 2015 power over 2010 power seat, does *that* just bolt right up, and keep adjustment, heated, etc.?

I think there may have been some wiring connector differences on the air bag?
