The latter can't be true, he uses too many big words to be dumb. You can always spot a troll, because everything they post has the sole purpose of instigation, and they dodge perfectly valid questions........I'm still waiting on that one.......... Dude's post history is atrociously troll-like........coincidence?

Its seems most of the focus on performance is in a straight line in this thread. With that being said Ford with the last GT500 IS still in in the 1/4 mile conversation I would think. Albeit it's not going to carve a corner and would need the perfect launch being manual in a drag. If one is lined up next to a HC or ZL1 the car's in it's class it's a race no? As for the new gt vs SS too early to tell imo..

The GT500 was pretty much junk... For the lap time records at VIR, the GT500 finished 68th overall....40 spots behind the current GT350R....and literally less than 4 seconds ahead of a V6 1LE... The car was beautiful, it was a beast in a straight line...but it was literally a joke in all other aspects of performance...

In stock form, compared to cars of today, it is junk on the track.

Just as the 2018 GT does better with quality tires as opposed to those crappy 245s... Bottom line is, that for the money, the car was severely outclassed by lesser cars when it came to doing anything but a straight line. Now, give it proper brakes and a better suspension....you'd have a pretty nice car...

Well to be fair, the GT500 was last produced in 2014. It had a solid axle and it was meant to be pretty good in cornering but have an emphasis on straight line runs. So you can't really compare it a completely new Gen Camaro that came around 2 MYs later and has an emphasis on cornering. And less than 4 seconds ahead of the V6 1LE still means more than 3 seconds. That is an ass kicking it'll put on the V6 1LE. It isn't even close. The V6 1LE in it's most extreme performance can't even hold a candle to the GT500. Also, the GT500 DID beat the 5th Gen ZL1 and 5th Gen Z28 in a straight line and around a track. It's only problem was that the braking faded after sustained runs. But even at that point I don't think the ZL1 and/or Z28 were able to beat it. Sorry guys but the GT500 was a complete monster and Chevy did not have an answer for it (in the form of a Camaro) while it was in production. I have nothing but respect for that car!

Also the GT350R was supposed to beat the GT500. It was on a new chassis, had IRS, CF wheels, and it was entirely suited for track duty while the GT500 was not entirely suited for that. I don't care at all for the GT350(R). It did outperform the GT500 in all but a straight line. But you can't fault the GT500 for that being the case. It was the last 2 years of an outgoing chassis with outgoing tech. It would be like criticizing the 5th Gen ZL1 and Z28 for being inferior to the current Gen SS 1LE.

Oh no...am I becoming a troll? LOL!!
Just kidding. But yea the GT500 was an impressive car. That is one car that Ford actually puts effort into making it impressive. The upcoming one will likewise be impressive. But Ford needs to throw an auto trans in it already. Even with 750 HP I doubt it'll beat an A10 ZL1 in a straight line. It'll probably just edge out the M6 ZL1 tho. And I'm sure it'll beat the ZL1 around a track. Not sure it'll beat the ZL1 1LE around a track tho. Although it is late to the party by a few years we can expect to have a fight on our hands...and it'll be about damn time. |
