HELP: "Low Oil Pressure. Turn Off Engine" at RPM X4000-5000

Guys,

Here is the deal : When driving above 90MPH (RPM X4000-5000) I get notice on the screen
"Low Oil Pressure. Turn Off Engine"

When it's less then RPM X4000-5000 the "notice" turn off and all is fine.

Your ideas? Thanks for help!

Is your oil pressure dropping when increasing engine rpm?

Have you checked your oil level? Sounds to me like the oil pump is sucking the pan dry at those elevated RPMs before the oil can return to the sump, which would be a symptom of low oil levels.

There could be an issue with the oil pump. Maybe there is a tooth broke in the gear. Or maybe your pick up tube is blocked.

You have the infamous "oil pump" issue found in many 2010-12 Camros. I got this exact warning message before my 2011 LS3 engine grenaded in 2015 and was replaced by Chevy/GM with a 2015 LS3 engine under the powertrain warranty. It hasn't been an issue since because the 2015 LS3 engines have upgraded oil pumps.

I wouldn't push that car too hard because the engine is giving you signs that it's about to go bye-bye. Have a mechanic check your engine ASAP! Also, search this forum for previous owners who had the infamous "oil pump" issue with 2010 - 12 Camaros. Good luck!

Thanks for tip! I got 136K on mileage with 3.6-liter V6 engine -- the infamous "oil pump" issues happend to people with 10-20K mileage 2010 camaros. Already looked into it.

He has a V6, I don’t think the LS3 pump issue applies.

First should be to put a mechanical gauge on it to check pressures.

Ok, fair enough but he needs to be concerned.

Ok, mine grenaded at 52k miles on my LS3 which exceeded the bumper 2 bumper warranty and the dealer (in Los Angeles, CA where I lived at the time) tried to deny me, and after getting GM involved, the PowerTrain warranty was invoked. I believe that you have an internal engine issue and it will cost you $$$ out of pocket if you don't have an aftermarket warranty that will cover it. Again, good luck!

I definitely agree, as said above I would manually check the pressures and then evaluate from there. Could be as simple as a bad sending unit or as catastrophic as impending engine failure. Either way definitely not something you want to let slide.
