Will definitely be going manual. This will be my daily also. I know the 8spd will be faster but I've always felt more at home with a manual. Plus it will see road courses from time to time.

But having tracked Z51's with Rev Match I can can tell you it is a very cool feature to have. Unless you are a very good driver that has truly mastered heel/toe driving, rev matching cannot be beat. I tried it and I am not very good at it at all, but a rev match car is perfect every down shift. It is just a ton of fun to drive and experience. IF, you have absolutely NO plans to ever, ever track your car, the new A8 is a joy to drive. In the Corvette it is wonderful for all types of general driving and some spirited use. But it overheats for track use. If I see that the Camaro Team has learned from the Corvette Team and is able to keep the A8 cool in all kinds of track conditions, then I might change my mind.
Thanks for that comparison. How was the A8 on the track other wise? Did it seem to be in the right gear at the right time? Did you let it shift itself or shift manually (if both, which did you prefer?)

I agree completely, except I've learned to heal toe shift...although not expertly by any means.

Would like the A8 BUT with my bad experience with AFM (excessive oil burn, tear into engine and lifter clatter that could mean failure in the future) the manual starts to look better. Even if you turn off AFM you still have potential for failures in the lifters etc...

Would rather have non-AFM auto and pay a tax.

This will be my daily driver but I'm going with a manual no question about it.

Even if it's a tick slower 0-60 the fun of using 3 pedals and knowing you're always in the right gear for whatever the situation is priceless.

I haven't owned an automatic since I sold my 1990 Beretta GT in 1999.

I read that the AFM is disabled in certain modes.

Let's hope so. I'd still get the A8 regardless - I'm sure Range will have something for me to take care of the AFM.

It is (I'm assuming sport and track). The manual SS won't have AFM at all. Whether or not the LT1 paired with a manual will still have the AFM hardware or not remains to be seen.

Considering everything I've heard, there is no wrong decision. The Camaro will not be my daily driver. Therefore, I plan on going with the manual.

I remember when the first 2010 orders were being processed in May of 2009, GM was caught a little off guard for the onslaught of SS/6 speed manual orders.

There was something like 60% of the initial orders in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2009 were SS 6MT, and GM had planned on 40%, with most being V6 6AT.

If the manual transmission is on it's death bed, as some people out there suggest, the Camaro will be the last to die. Generally speaking the take rate of manual transmissions in America is around 8% of the gross annual sales of all cars in the United States. With the Camaro it is certainly 30% or more.

Automatic will be a lot more popular this time around if I had to bet for three reason.

-The L99 was neutered which pissed a lot of people off (including me)

-There is a new 8 speed with a lot of hype etc.

-Plenty of strip and performance enthusiast will jump ship as well given the advantages the 8 speed has. I know it is pulling on me as well and ive always been a manual guy.
