Exactly. There were multiple dealers making special cars at the time. These were not GM cars in that sense. COPO would be from the factory but were mpt regular production. Think we need to spell out exactly what you are looking for.

Edit: Berger actually revived the ZL1 nameplate in 2002 with a 427 equipped SS. I'm sure someone can post a link to it.

I looked at the link and only three dealers that carried enough weight in there name to have cars added.
1967 - 1969 Yenko Camaro
Dick Harrell 1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro
1967 Camaro RS/ Tahoe Turquoise Nickey - Team Camaro Tech

But only one of them (IMHOP) has the name recognition that would put them on the list and that is Yenko.

Thanks for the link.

I'll put it to you this way. You could not goto your local dealer to order a COPO, Yenko, Nickey, or Baldwin Motion Camaro. You would have had to go to one of these dealers to get their cars. Berger was the same way. IMO none of them should be on the list for this reason.

For me it has to do with how well known they are. Would people go that far just to buy a Yenko cars. I think the answer is yes, they would.

I grew up in Alaska so when it comes to being in a remote location, I'm pretty sure I had most of you beat. Even living in the land of ice and snow, I had heard about Yenko. That is why Yenko is on the list.

In the interest of readability, might i suggest that you only include changes in new posts, and just update the original post with the comprehensive data?

Also, check out the nastyz28 link I posted for 2nd gen info if you haven't already. Good luck

Thanks for the advice, I update the list by modding the list, new data is in blue.

Actually you could order a COPO at many dealerships. I won't say all dealerships could order them, but COPO's were ordered all over the country and delivered. COPO's belong on the list IMO since they were actually built and designed by GM.

I think you could include the Indy 500 Festival Cars. They are not Pace Cars but are special edition for the Indy 500 races only.

Jay Klein Chevrolet was an authorized Yenko dealership here in Minnesota. Yenko had a network across the country. And there were about 1,000 COPO's ordered in 69 through many dealerships.

This still makes my point. Ordering a COPO was not something everyone could do, and many never knew it existed since it was dealer trick to get around displacement restrictions. I'm not saying it shouldn't be on the list, but if you are going to open the list to COPOs, there's a lot of special models that need to be on here too.

Correct and Yenko was by far the biggest, but even in '69 they only sold a few. Think everyone will find this interesting.

"To date, COPO 9561 production records have not surfaced, but engine production is known. 822 "MN" 4-speed and 193 "MO" automatic engines were produced, some for service/warranty, but suggesting 900-1000 cars. Of these, Yenko sold 198. Performance was outstanding with skilled drivers able to record high 11/low 12 second times."

http://www.camaros.org/copo.shtml

It also lists the other dealers who sold custom COPO Camaros. Fred Gibb was the first and the creator of the ZL1 Camaros, a car that was never offered as regular production, only via COPO.

Found this as well. A good read too:

Ok I can understand that since it's your list, but why ask anyone for help if it just a list that "you feel are well known"? Some of the ones you have listed are obscure already. Yenko Turbo Z for example, 19 produced. Most people aren't even aware it existed much less that a turbo V8 ever existed in a Camaro. I'd love to help, but with no clear expectations of what you want or don't want, I don't know how to help.

You have a point. What I am looking for are all the Camaro name plates from GM (Even the one off's that GM builds count) and any other company that had a production build that lasted more than one year and produced no less than 100 cars.

Example Yenko produced 4 years and built a total of 340 cars
1967 Yenko Camaro's built 54
1968 Yenko Camaro's built 68
1969 Yenko Camaro's built 201
1981 Yenko Turbo Z was basically a Z/28 with a turbo kit added on and only built 17

So the minimum requirements outside of GM would be 2 years 100 cars.

SEMA cars will be judged on a case by case basis. Was it a Camaro done for GM or was it built as proof of concept for a GM supporting vendor. Supporting vendor cars will not count.

I hope this helps, and thank you for bringing this to my attention.
