Question on my plan for "break in"

Hey everyone. So when I receive that car I plan on driving it down to show my parents and friends. They live 300 miles south of me.. Given the round trip commute, plus the inevitable miles I'm going to put on the car showing it to all my friends, I expect to hit the 1500 mile mark within 3-4 days of taking ownership..

Which is perfect since I don't want to wait months to rip the car .

My question is, I know the car needs to have a variable RPM while driving for the first 1500, but on the highway, HOW LONG can I maintain a cruising speed of say 70-80 (under 4k rpm of course) before needing to switch into another RPM bracket.

And how much of a change would you think is needed? 500 RPM's every 10-30 minutes?

Thanks

P.S: Oil change, should I get one around 800 miles, or just wait for the 1500 to pass.

This is going to be one long road trip.......

While i'm at it, Glen, how can I best protect the front of my car? the car will be showroom detailed before delivery (I trust my dealer since they will be displaying it in the showroom before I go to pick it up), and Florida highways can be pretty punishing..

Im waiting for novistretch to make a bra, until then get some meguires NXT wax at the auto parts store and put a few coats on the nose until you can do a full detail later. Get the bugs off it every night when done driving...a hot towel will melt them off or use a spray wand wash place. Poorboys bug squash dliuted in a spray bottle works well too.

Got it.. I'm getting the car from the showroom floor, so it should be spotless and thus making the application way easier. I think I'll do the hot towel trick. Save a few bucks there!

Regardless, the car is made to be DRIVEN!!!!!

Would you consider a $600 appearance warranty? My dealer offers it, underwritten by someone else. Any cosmetic damage within 24 months, both in and out of the car, are 100% covered with no deductible. This includes leather seats and everything..

I was considering it for the outside more than anything, and before the warranty ending, getting them replaced.

Glen, one more. Given the car should be pretty well detailed come delivery.. How about I add a coat of sealant as you have recommended to the forums, before i take the drive.

So bugs come off easily, new car dealer details are marginal at best, usually a wash and then spray wax...

Just a heads up. I spent $2200 on an appearance "warranty" on my 2010 that covers "everything." But I can assure you it didn't cover everything. You need to read the fine print and see if it has a deductible still tied to it. 600 is not a lot of profit to be made for a dealership if they cover every little cosmetic damage for you.

Edit: I see no deductible. You definitely won't get everything covered, it's just not realistic.

I would not waste my time sealing anything until you strip the car and inspect the paint.

Dealers can do really shotty work and then fill all the damage they do with crap that slowly washes off exposing more and more scratches each time.

Here is my 2010, just look at what was hidden under all the fillers of my brand new SS. I will never trust a dealer again

Sealing will not interfere with anything, sealing is waxing in procedure, do it so bugs don't stick.....and we are talking about just doing the bumper, before you drive home, not at delivery....

Bring a spray bottle of alcohol/water to strip the surface to inspect...

I too want to follow the break in procedure once I take delivery of my 1SS. I work as a FF/Paramedic and work 24hrs (7am-7am) then I'm off for three days, or 72hrs (24/72 schedule). I work 60 miles from home. Part of the rational for buying this car was the gas mileage it gets (19-22mpg). I only get 12mpg in my 2500HD.

Based on your recommendation of changing the rpm range every 10-15min I'd assume my best course of action would be to go from 5th gear to 6th gear back to 5th gear every 10min?

Make sure you do some full throttle accel and deaccel up to 4500 RPMs. The rings need pressure to seat.
