Trunk release button on back

I just realized that there is a release button for the trunk just above the license plate. However, it apparently is active all the time which means that anyone who knows Camaros can get into your trunk without your key. This is a security problem. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable that so that just anybody cannot get into my trunk whenever they want?

the electric release is not active while the engine is running so no one could just walk up and pop the trunk. Only way to open it while engine is running is to hit the trunk button on the drivers door below the armrest.
obviously the electric release is also disabled when the car is locked.

no security issues about how it works as far as i'm concerned.

When the car is locked, it wont open unless you have the fob with you.

How long have you had your camaro? I'm surprised you just now finding this out ..also I believe if your key fob is not present you won't be able to open it if the car is locked.

Not any different than any other car door.

If the car isn't locked, then the truck button will open just like one of the doors.
If the car is locked, then you need to have your FOB with you for the button to be active.

I don't see any security concern any different than any other car.

This is pretty common for keyless access cars.

OK, I apologize for taking up everybody's time. I had not tried it with the car locked and not having the key fob with me. It is a non-problem as it works just as you all described. Thanks for all the responses. Happy motoring.

My trunk will not release while the car is running unless the parking brake is engaged. I suspect this is true for all 6th gens. You wouldn't want to be tooling down the road at 70 mph, bump the trunk button and have it open.

youre correct, the fob needs to be within like a 2 feet of the car.

i always keep my key on me so that key is how i access my trunk 99% of the time. i rarely use the button on the fob or the button on the door.
